Hiring a boyfriend for Christmas; what could possibly go wrong?
Derek is facing yet another Christmas where his life feels out of control. He has a new career that doesn’t feel like his, and parents who would just love to see him settled down. All he needs is a temporary buffer for the parties he has to attend, and for his parents to leave him alone. Enter, Luke.
Luke is twenty-thousand dollars short for the renovations on Halligans; his family’s bar in New York’s Financial District. A favor for a buddy has him agreeing to play the part of boyfriend to a guy with more money than sense.
But when the spirit of Christmas works its magic on the two men, and they begin to fall for each other, Derek runs scared, and Luke needs space.
It doesn’t matter what obstacles you throw in the way of love, or how much you run in the other direction, because, when you’re least expecting it, whether you want it or not, love happens anyway.
REVIEW:
I look forward to all these sweet Christmas books.
Derek is trapped by his own lies. All he wants is for his parents to leave him be and let him live his life and run the company that has been left to him. The company he has been groomed to run since he was a teen. But, unfortunately, that isn’t the case. His mom is constantly trying to run his love life…preferably tied to one of her socialite friend’s sons. His dad is “supposedly” retired but still looking over his shoulder. So what if he might have “fabricated” a wonderful boyfriend, Marcus, the sexy fireman who saves kittens. But all that is crashing down on him when his parents come to town to meet Marcus and won’t take no for an answer. So Derek is forced to hire a look-alike to play his boyfriend for the holidays. Luke needs $20,000 fast! His sister and mom are counting on him for the money to do the much needed renovations to the family bar in NYC. Life has been a bit rough for Luke every since “the accident”. And now the final blow…the bank refused to loan him the money. So now, with no place left to turn to, he is forced to help out his buddy at his “Companion for Hire” agency. But what happens next was a surprise for both men.
I really like these boyfriend for hire stories. A man gets into a jam and has to hire an imposter to be his arm candy. Then they develop feelings for each other and the rest is history. They are a fun reads that leave a smile on your face and a warm feeling in your heart.
Both men are very attractive and it really causes you to think why Derek has had such bad luck in the love department. But lack of confidence in yourself after some rough breaks can leave you leery. Add into that a slimy college friend, David, who has been filling your head with negative thoughts and you can’t blame the guy for being down on himself. And David was a real piece of work! I was so glad that Derek and Luke let down some of their walls and learned to open up.
This was a real fast read that will brighten your heart on a cold winter’s night! BTW: great cover that ties in nicely to the sub-story line at the ad agency.
