REVIEW:
So, I picked up this book and was really intrigued by the blurb. I mean, it sounds sexy and dangerous and paranormal, I mean…this is right up my alley. I do so love me some good paranormal stories. I have to say that this story, when it finally kicked in…Blew me away…I had dreams about this book the night I finished.
While reading this book I was caught by so much…I mean, it seems that Remi does ALL the chasing in this story. I do mean ALL. However, I liked that for a guy who always dated women to see this man and decide…That is someone I NEED to know. I NEED to be with. He just felt it and he went with his feelings. No hesitation at all…just he’s someone I need and that’s all there was to it. Remi who grew up listening to his grandmother’s words (she was the parish priestess) and being able to believe in what she spoke of…that helps him greatly in not only his job, but in what he’s about to face in being with Peter.
Peter…yeah, it took me a bit to get into his character. I knew that he had some stuff going on in his life…but he came across a bit cold for me at first. It was only after really getting to know him a bit better and understanding what his situation is…then I got a way better understanding of who and what he is. Peter’s life hasn’t been an easy life and fighting the battles that he has fought and continues to fight…yeah…I got the reasons why he is the way he is. I couldn’t imagine having to have this on-going battle inside your body for control and knowing what your future is supposed to entail. Peter is actually a really good guy who is trying his hardest to live a good life, one that is protected and yet, one that allows him to be free. Such an interesting character…I enjoyed watching him throughout the book change into who he is meant to become.
The side characters, Caleb and Kaden…Peter and Remi’s right-hand’s respectively…these guys are good guys. They would follow them into whatever comes and truly have their backs. I have to say that I really loved the way that Kaden just accepted Remi and his need to be with Peter. Didn’t really question it at all and just went along with it. That kind of unconditional love, friendship and respect…that was really just amazing to me. Caleb…now Caleb has some issues with humans that wasn’t fully revealed, yet, I have a feeling that it will be. I really appreciated the position that Caleb is in. He is Peter’s Second and has his back and yet, he’s also a wolf that has people that even he needs to report to. These two men, for me were some of the very best secondary characters that I’ve ever seen. I have to say that they weren’t the only characters around, but these are the two that were there the most and really gave the most to the story.
The mystery/suspense was actually given away early-ish in the story…however, even though we the reader knew what was happening and Peter had an inkling of why this was happening…Remi and Kaden did not and the way that these two men work together as a team was really great to see. To know that these people died to get Peter’s attention…that was hard to really bear and yet, the bad guys in this story…Holy Hannah, Batman…they are bad and the leader of the bad guys…Power-Hungry and Crazy. I normally can get down and understand a bad guy…but this B*tch is CRAZY. There were no redeeming qualities about her.
Now, I will admit that this book was a slow burn and I wondered how they would get there or if they even would, as Deja is a new to me author…I have to say that when these two men got together and allowed their passion to rein free…HAWT DAMN!!! I thought my poor sweet Kindle would go up in flames. Very tastefully done and you could see how it brought our MC’s closer together. The sexy times wasn’t gratuitous at all.
This was a really wonderful book and I really enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more from Deja Black. If you’d like a story that is slow burn, with a good solid romance and some good action…this is the book for you.
