Craft store owner Grant has always been a sucker for a pretty face, and that goes double for a pretty face with an adorable sidekick. When seven-year-old Aubrey has her heart set on taking Grant’s already-full holiday craft series, he caves and gives up his one day off a week so she (and her hot guardian, Josh) can take private lessons. Their flirting ramps up week after week, and even though Josh isn’t with Aubrey’s mother, Grant can’t be sure the man isn’t straight. Maybe he’s just being friendly. And Josh, who most definitely is not straight, is afraid of being the creepy guy hitting on the teacher.
Frustrated by their stubbornness and cluelessness, Aubrey takes matters into her own hands. She decides the best gift to give Josh is something homemade and from the heart—a boyfriend they’ll both love.
REVIEW:
The absolute first word that comes to mind about Homemade from the Heart by Bru Baker is cute. Grant owns a craft store that specialises in kids art lessons. He is booked out until Christmas, but when Josh and the adorable Aubrey walk in Grant doesn’t want to disappoint the amazingly handsome man or the little girl with him. So Sunday art lessons start so that Aubrey can make presents for her family.
Grant thinks Josh is the father until a bombshell tells him otherwise but he still thinks the man is straight. Josh doesn’t want to be the creepy man hitting on the kid’s teacher. But Aubrey knows what they both want for Christmas.
This novella will make you smile and laugh and go away undeniably happy. It is very cute between adorable art, little children, hot men and a huge crush. The story is well written and well developed. The characters are well rounded and interesting. I enjoyed the way that they both unfold over the story, learning new bits about Grant and Josh as you go. And I love the humour.
Really, the only thing that could have made this story better is if I could have kept following Grant and Josh for longer. I didn’t really want it to end. The whole story was a perfect blend of Christmas fun.
