“Do you have room service around here?” I teased because I wasn’t sure my legs would support the trip down to the kitchen for the non-liquid protein part of our morning. And as for investigating, I doubted I’d be able to form a coherent thought after coming my brains out.
“We’re going to work on your stamina,” D’Angelo said teasingly. “I’ll start you on a training program that will make it possible for you to come one minute and execute demons the next.” I raised up and quirked a brow at him. The smile slid from his face and the humor faded from his eyes. “All teasing aside, I do need to train you if you’re going to share a life with me. Danger is always just around the corner for me and I need to know that you’ll be able to handle yourself. It doesn’t seem fair, and I feel like you’ve been forced into a reality that you didn’t want.”
“You’re not forcing me to do anything, D,”I said tenderly. “I was made for you. For once in my life, I belong to someone who wants me. It’s the most amazing feeling in the world. I’m going to learn to do whatever it takes to be your partner in all aspects of our life. I’ll learn to swing a sword, kick some ass, and anything else.”
D’Angelo snorted. “Okay, Buffy.” I was happy to see his humor return, so I didn’t call him out on his remark. “Your first training session starts as soon as we get cleaned up.”
“Yeah? Swords?” I asked excitedly.
“Food one-oh-one,” D’Angelo said. “I wasn’t joking about fueling for a long day. You can’t always swing through a drive thru when you’re out in the field. The right foods will keep you going.”
“I could eat,” I replied casually. I had never been so hungry in all my life. It was baffling how quickly my life was changing from an obscure, unwanted waiter to a man with a bonded mate and a bright future—even if it would be bone-chilling scary at times.
I am a wife and mother to three kids, three dogs, and a cat. When I’m not dreaming up stories, I like to lose myself in a good book, cook or bake. I’m a girly tomboy
who paints her fingernails while watching sports and yelling at the referees.
