Journalism student Gabe Martin gets his first professional assignment—to write about a Christmas charity dinner that benefits a children’s home. It sounds like a total snooze-fest until Gabe learns that the event’s Santa is a mystery man. He shows up in costume and no one has a clue who he is. Uncovering Santa’s identity sounds like the perfect angle to turn a fluff piece into serious journalism.
Mack “The Mountain” McDonall, at 6’10”, is University of Wisconsin-Madison’s enormous star wrestler. When Gabe first claps eyes on him at a wrestling match, it’s lust at first sight. Gabe’s friend, Jordan, sets up the pair on a date. But when Gabe chatters on about his plans for outing Santa, Mack goes cold, and their first meeting becomes an epic fail.
As Gabe researches the children’s home, he learns that Mack has secrets a guy famous for being a brute wouldn’t want the world to know. Can Gabe find his holiday spirit, write a killer article, win the heart of a surly giant, and give everyone a very merry Christmas?
REVIEW:
Eli Easton is one of my all-time favorite authors and Christmas is probably my favorite holiday. Mixing these two and I am in seventh heaven. Desperately Seeking Santa is a real feel-good story. It is light, fun, entertaining, heartwarming and gives all the amazing feels most of us look for in our romance novels. No matter if you have read Superheroes (you must remember Jordan and Owen and greet them as long lost friends) or if you haven’t (you definitely should cos it’s pretty awesome) you’re in for some great fun and a few hours of absolute book heaven.
The story has all the elements and promises of a fabulous book. We have hot wrestlers, a smart journalist with a wicked sense of humor, amazing friends and an even more amazing group of family members. Add Christmas, a bit of misunderstanding, a few coincidences, some secrets, Santa, a charity dinner and a wonderful home for children-in-need and you get the perfect recipe for an unforgettable holiday read. The whole package is spiced up with Eli Easton’s writing and her witty humor. This story is a real page turner and I loved every minute of it.
The plot is well built, we get all kinds of feels so our hearts get a serious workout, just to be filled with warmth and love by the end.
Our MCs are lovable, wholesome characters with great personalities and wonderful, tender chemistry. The build up of the relationship forming between Mack and Gabe is slow. Slow and burning and full of the wonders of young love. They are in their early twenties and their blossoming love mirrors their age beautifully.
I absolutely adore the wrestling angle (being part of the big wrestling family myself) so it brought the whole story so much closer to me. It does not overpower the plot though, so if you are not a big sports fan you are safe here as a good balance is kept along the way with enough sport details to be intriguing but not too much to be overwhelming.
If you are looking for a great holiday story full of heart, compassion and love, this is definitely a must read for you. Highly recommended. Enjoy.
