’Tis the season of goodwill to all men…even the one who dumped you.
Riley MacDermott’s ambitions are simple. Managing the annual Bath Christmas Market—which involves long hours in the cold and a whole lot of hassle—will secure the promotion he needs to afford to move out of his noisy, top-floor flat. Where not even his balcony is safe from an aggressive herring gull.
The last stallholder he expects to see is his ex. Riley never recovered from their break up, and five years on the old chemistry still sparkles. So does their habitual head butting.
Stan never wanted to leave the love of his life, but the pull of the woods was too strong—and Riley was firmly planted in the city. Reconnecting is painful, but Stan still jumps at the chance to stay with his old flame during the Market. And damn the consequences.
As the weeks pass, the two grow closer than ever. But despite scorching sex and cozy intimacy, they both know they face a cold and lonely future. Unless one of them can compromise.
Merry Gentlemen is a wonderful, fun way to get your mind and soul ready for the holiday season. I loved this story when I read it a few years back and probably loved it even more now. With a couple of thousands books in this genre under my belt or on my Kindle you get to appreciate true gems. Gems with an everlasting value. Josephine Myles is one of those authors who deliver quality in everything they do. Merry Gentlemen is no exception.
The characters, the humour, the style, these all add up to a fantastic read. When you remember almost every scene from a few years distance, you know you get something memorable. All the details from the Christmas market to Scrappy, the seagull from the Santa costume to the office party striptease has its own place and function here.
I absolutely love our MCs as well. I especially enjoy stories with a couple who broke up for whatever reason and still love each other. What happens when the love of your life appears one day five years after he walked out of your life. Yep, you guessed it right, this is a wonderful example of a second chances romance. Done beautifully. Stan and Ri share some explosive chemistry, a deep connection with amazing feelings even after five years apart and their longing for each other is truly palpable.
I love how nothing is rushed. The story has a great pace, everything has its time to develop and the humour that is woven into the story along the way give an extra layer of awesomeness to this read.
Merry Gentlemen is a heartwarming love story of two guys who need to find a common ground to be able to live together in all the happiness they deserve. This book will give you sparks of the holiday spirit in no time. Have fun. Highly recommended.
