Love dogs and smoking hot men? The Love Off Leash series is for you. Unrelated stories. Shared theme of new love and pets.
Can this romance stand a snowball’s chance in hell?
Hitting a dog in a snowstorm is a heck of a way to meet a guy. When August Long rushes an injured stray to the vet, he’s blown away by the gruff yet sexy doctor. August never intended to hook up with a small-town local, but Eric Grover woos him with snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and a passion hot enough to melt the winter snow.
No one seems to know why an ex-military surveyor has moved into Hopewell Springs, and Eric is intrigued by the Southern stranger’s charm. Tall, handsome August lights his fire while filling a need for companionship he hadn’t realized he lacked. Spending time with August and Bear, his recovering German shepherd, makes Eric begin to believe love is possible.
But there’s a shadow threatening their budding romance. August fears telling Eric everything his job entails and keeps the secret until the truth detonates, nearly destroying them. For the two men to reconcile their differences, it may take a Christmas miracle—and the intervention of an adorable dog or two.
REVIEW:
August Long has moved to Hopewell Springs as a surveyor, working for a company exploring the possibility of doing some fuel extraction in the area. August has to keep this to himself, but also make friends with the locals. He’s slowly working on this, but once he rescues a dog and meets the local vet, things move more quickly. Eric Grover is attracted to the man who brings in the injured dog, and hopes he will keep the dog, and maybe be a friend. The two form a bond over the injured dog, and discover they have a mutual attraction…
Eric and August begin to hang out and explore the winter activities in the area, spend time with August’s new dog Bear, and Eric’s dog Polly, and get up to some hot sex! Things get dramatic when August’s secret comes out, and the two have a big fight. Will their budding relationship survive?
My issues with this book are that the plot was really predictable from the start. There was no surprise at any point, and the only drama was the big fight/misunderstanding, which I have read in sooooo many books. There were also some editing problems, a wrong name used once, and a timing thing. In a conversation August says “Before tomorrow’s town meeting…” then goes on to say “Come to the meeting tonight…”, but he goes home and goes to bed, so clearly the meeting isn’t tonight. Things like that throw me right out of a story, and an editor should have caught it.
But I did like Eric and August, and I think they were a good couple. They had some chemistry, and I liked how they fit together even in such a small town. The couple of sex scenes between them were good, and the banter between them was fun. I liked the two dogs, although I will say it’s pretty unrealistic that a cast would come off of a fractured leg so soon… I liked the few townsfolk that come and go, and I liked how the story ended.
So I guess it was just an okay book. It was quick, parts were alright, but the editing was an issue for me. If you are looking for a sweet, predictable story with no angst, fun dogs, and happy ending, give this one a try. If you need a little more plot and action, maybe this isn’t the one for you.

I appreciate the review!
Too bad it did not do it for you, Tori. I must recognise I love the cover, so I had added it to my TBR list. I’ll have to think it twice now…
I like sweet, low to no angst, on days I need the easy read. I may give this a try, although the editing issues might drive me nuts too. We’ll see.
