Love Bytes is delighted to be aible to show you the exclusive new cover of Anne Barwell her new upcoming dreamspinner press release “Prelude to Love”, part of the Dreamspun Desires series.
Anne introduces us to the cover , shares the blurb and there is a giveaway to participate in!
Welcome Anne π
Thanks, Dani, for hosting me today. I’m excited to be here, and to share my cover by Bree Archer for Prelude to Love, which is being released by Dreamspinner Press on 2nd January as part of their Dreamspun Desires line.
This was my first time working with Bree Archer and it was a very enjoyable experience. I love the cover she gave me for this story.
There were several elements I wanted in the cover, which worked in well with the house design for Dreamspun Desires. The story is set in Wellington, so I wanted that and/or New Zealand to be represented. One of the first comments I’ve received from anyone living locally who has looked at it is, that’s Wellington! If you look closely on the right side there’s also a hint of a pohutukawa tree with its distinctive red blooms. They’re also known as New Zealand Christmas trees, as they bloom coming into Christmas.Β This year they kept their flowers much later than usual, something that is commented on in the story.
The guy on the cover, who is the subject of the other first comment I get when I show someone the cover, is Joel. He’s a high school music teacher, hence the manuscript he’s holding, and I think he gives off that vibe quite nicely. I thought Bree found a great match for the character, although it was fun deciding from the options she gave me. I got her email about that while I was on break at work, and got a lot of suggestions and help with my decision from everyone in the library staff room!
As part of this cover reveal I’m offering a giveaway of an ebook copy of another story I’ve written which is set in Wellington βSlow Dreamingβto someone who comments on this post. Don’t forget to leave your email so I can contact you if you’ve won!
Blurb:
Music speaks directly to the heart.
Two very different men face turning points in their lives after the collapse of long-term relationships.
Joel is a music teacher who knows it’s time to forget his ex and move on, while Marcus runs a lawn-mowing business and has come to Wellington to escape the reminders of a recent breakup. Although they’re opposites, when Joel and Marcus connect, their romance has the potential to hit all the right notes.
Too bad neither of them feels ready for new love.
With family and friends in common, dating is risky things could get messy if it doesn’t work out. The sweet song of possibility draws them to each other, though, and they share a kiss following a Chopin prelude. But it will take some practice and perseverance to find their perfect harmony.

Anne Barwell lives in Wellington, New Zealand. She shares her home with two cats who are convinced that the house is run to suit them; this is an ongoing “discussion,” and to date it appears as though the cats may be winning. In 2008 she completed her conjoint BA in English Literature and Music/Bachelor of Teaching. She has worked as a music teacher, a primary school teacher, and now works in a library. She is a member of the Upper Hutt Science Fiction Club and plays violin for Hutt Valley Orchestra. She is an avid reader across a wide range of genres and a watcher of far too many TV series and movies, although it can be argued that there is no such thing as “too many.” These, of course, are best enjoyed with a decent cup of tea and further the continuing argument that the concept of “spare time” is really just a myth. She also hosts other authors, reviews for the GLBTQ Historical Site “Our Story”Β and Top2Bottom Reviews, and writes monthly blog posts for Authors Speak and Love Bytes.
Anne’s books have received honorable mentions four times and reached the finals three times in the Rainbow Awards.Β Β She has also been nominated twice in the Goodreads M/M Romance Reader’s Choice Awards, once for Best Fantasy and once for Best Historical.

The book sounds great and thanks for explaining your views on the cover. I like the adding of the pohutukawa tree. I read about the tree somewhere and thought it was a great add to the cover.

Thanks! That was one thing I specifically wanted on the cover as it’s very New Zealand, and is mentioned in several places in the book.
What a cutie. I can’t wait to hear the music he makes!
