Sparked in the shadows, their passion burns brighter than any fire in Hell.
Formed at the dawn of civilization and risen through the ranks of demonkind to command legions, Andras has never cared for anything so much as his duty to humanity and the Creator.
There is nothing on Earth that could hold a candle to his sense of purpose.
Ben travels the world alone, intent on destroying rogue vampires, feral werewolves, and corrupt witches. For him, hunting is more than a job, it’s his life’s calling.
But there is more in Heaven and Earth than he ever imagined, and the revelation sets his shadowed world ablaze.
From the moment their eyes meet, the desire in Andras’ blood gives him a new mission: possess the rugged hunter. Will Ben resist the primal pull between them, or will he let the fire of the demon lord’s lust consume him?
Review:
I picked up this book after reading book one in the series because I really liked the first one. I was hoping for more of the same (quality) from this one. I didn’t expect it to be too much the same.
Andras is not what most of the world expects a demon to be. He’s trying to save the world one soul at a time but he’s missing something and he isn’t even aware of what it is…until Ben.
Ben is a man who helps humanity his own way, but his life isn’t really suited to long-term relationships.
Both men are good at what they do, but along the way they’ve become too alone.
I’ll be honest, when I first started this book, I was sure I had read it already, but when I got further in, I realize it was a different one, abet not much.
I liked it. The intensity appealed to me as does the supernatural elements and I always enjoy reading someone else’s take on things like Heaven and Hell and all that falls between.
But for the most part, it was just too similar to the first book and it sort of made it just a little “meh” for me. The appearance of Reese and Will made me smile as I was fond of them from A Single Heartbeat, and while Andras lacked Reese’s cocky, sarcastic attitude, the basic storyline was the same.
Once again, there were no real side characters to speak of, just little blips on the radar that sort of moved the plot along and when you are relying so heavily on your main characters to support your story, your plot has to be an excellent one.
One thing that is very good about the story is the sex. It’s well written and the interactions between Andras and Ben in the bedroom are somehow hot as sin and sweet as candy at the same time. If you read it (and you should, this is only my opinion after all) I hope you will appreciate the vulnerability that the author brings to Andros. He is almost as old as time and so making him so human is something I give the author kudos for. And if you like smoking hot sex, then you will definitely appreciate this story.
So, to sum it all up, I like the characters, appreciate the character interactions and love the world the author has created. But the similarity to the first story kind of knocked it down a few notches for me. It is part of a series but you really don’t have to have read the first one to read this story and you might like it better if you don’t.
