A Wild Cards Novel
In crime, like in love, there can be no half measures….
Fashion model Zane Stryker needs money—badly. At almost thirty, his glory days are behind him, and he needs capital to start over. When his luggage is switched with a bag containing contraband he’s forced to deliver, it’s either the worst thing that’s ever happened to him… or the best.
Enter Sebastian Gigoni, formerly of the British Special Forces, who has to decide just where Zane’s loyalty lies and why. Sizzling attraction erupts between them, but that doesn’t mean they can trust each other. They double down in a race for their lives—and their love—but are their purposes at odds? As they struggle to reconcile their goals, their consciences, and the needs of their hearts, one thing is clear—they must go all in or give up altogether.
STORY REVIEW:
I enjoyed this story. It was totally over the top and not believable in places, but I think that was the point. I was easily able to suspend reality and just let myself go and enjoy the action packed ride.
I enjoyed the plot aspects of this story very much. From the very beginning this were setup to keep me a little off balance and needing to keep reading. I needed to figure out what the heck was happening and how these men were going to find the bad guy and still stay a live. Like all spy types stories, this one really needed to simply be enjoyed and not over analyzed and i found it was easy for me to do just that.
I struggled a little bit with the romance when it turned from lust into love. I got the attraction but I was never convinced this was more than adrenaline fueled lust. I really didn’t have a clue how it came to be love and that may be because the narration didn’t work for me and didn’t really emphasize the emotions well. But even so, in the end I loved the happy feeling I was left with. I am not convinced things will last after these men really get to know one another, but hey, maybe we will see more of them in the future so I can be proved wrong.
Overall, I thought this was a good addition to the Dreamspun Desires line. It was fun, had great characters, and left me feeling mostly fulfilled. Just maybe pick this one up as an ebook rather than in audio.
NARRATION REVIEW:
This was not one of my favorites by John Solo. It felt stiff and cold and lacked the emotion I needed to really connect with this story. His voice was clear and easy to listen to but I felt like the nuances of the romance and the tension were not brought out in this narration.
