When Denver’s long-term partner breaks up with him, he flees his life, his career, and his bright future as one of the country’s leading trauma surgeons. Ditching everything but his dog, Denver returns to the quiet town of Cooper’s Ridge and his parents’ ranch.
Leaving twelve years earlier, Denver knew he would never be accepted as a gay man in an unaccepting town. So, when he meets Kes—an old school friend—in the bar he owns, he is shocked to find him in an openly gay relationship. Something he never thought would happen here.
What surprises him even more is the instant, mutual attraction the three men have. Accepting a job in Kes’ bar, they dance around each other, wanting them but not believing he would ever fit in with a couple so obviously in love. But, they want him. And they are not prepared to let him go.
Denver takes a risk and accepts their offer of a night out, finding a side of himself he never knew existed. Not trusting himself to be enough for the two men, the desire blooming in him is unprecedented and he can’t deny it: he wants them as much.
He finds his life falling into place, all because of two men. Is it possible he found his forever in a place he never expected it?
REVIEW:
Those of you that know me know I am not only a huge fan of J. J. Harper but of ménage stories so this was a double win for me. J. J. never disappoints me!
Dr. Denver Sinclair is one of the country’s top trauma surgeons and has everything he desires…or so he thought. But when he returns home from another conference, as the featured guest speaker, he discovers it’s all a sham. His fiancé has all his belongings packed up and removed from their home and announces he’s getting married to another doctor at their hospital. So he sells their home and his car, buys a pickup truck, loads up their, now his, dog and returns home to his parents ranch. Life seems to have gotten the best of him until he heads into town with his brother to the local bar. There he sees the man he experienced his first kiss with, Kester “Kes” Dereham, who is the bar owner and in a open, committed relationship with East Brookman, the contractor who is doing his family’s new ranch addition. Open gay relationships were the last thing he expected in his close minded, small hometown. But I guess the last thing he should have expected was both these men to want him too! “Denver’s Calling” is the story of how these men work through everything in their paths to build a loving and lasting triad relationship.
While each of these men had backstories that were touching and made you want to hold them and protect them from harm, Denver’s story hit me the hardest. He is an honorable man, who works at a gut wrenching job saving people’s lives, and is cheated on by the man that is suppose to love and protect him most. Alex, his ex, deserves anything bad that is thrown his way. He is a cheating, vile excuse for a man and never deserved Denver in the first place! The thing that was driving me crazy was that I was worried that Denver had given up on his dream and gift of being a brilliant trauma surgeon. I am so thankful that Dr. Woodruff was one of his fans as much as Denver was of him. Denver never was made to be behind a bar…now singing at one is fine with me as it seems to be one of his stress releasors.
All three men are damn fine and the three together was explosive! And although their families were skeptical of this unique relationship I was pleased to see that they supported them. Plus, those men were even hotter behind closed doors! The one thing I would hope for in the future is that they learn to communicate better. Living in a relationship is tough enough with two but having a successful ménage relationship means you have to learn to be honest and open with your partners to make it long-lasting.
I loved this new series and can’t wait for more! I am sure the next book will focus more on the new bartender Carter but, I hope in typical J. J. fashion, we will see lots more of these three amazing men! A huge 5 hearts for me!!
