“I guess I always figured coming out was something you did for friends and family, and maybe it is, but it’s personal too, you know? The person I was last night is new. I wanna get to know him.”
I had two things on my list when I arrived in Los Angeles. One, track down Henry Bennington, the uncle and guardian of my little brother’s best friend, and tell him to get his ass back to Washington. He needed to do something about his nephew, who was turning into a douchebag. And two, figure out just how non-straight I was. For the past two years, I’d had all these fantasies, and now was the time to explore them, far away from my sleepy little town.
Nowhere on this list did it say, “Get Ty’s uncle into bed and fall for him.” I wasn’t supposed to fall in love with another city either. But between brunch, making new friends, and discovering the man I was meant to be, I lost sight of the future that had once seemed pretty damn vivid. How the hell was I supposed to merge my old life and who I used to be with the new dreams Los Angeles and Henry had awakened in me?
REVIEW:
This book is so feel good that I’ve found myself smiling thinking about it days after I finished it. There are so many things that made this book absolutely special. The writing is obviously stellar, no surprise there from this author. Cara Dee never ceases to amaze me with the stories she tells. I love her characters and this series is pretty fantastic even though I didn’t read the m/f books. Out was special for many reasons but what I loved most was the communication between Henry and Zach. I fell in love with both men simply because of how well they communicated with each other.
Zach has always had desires towards other men. But he’s also been into the women he’s dated too. Knowing he’s at a place where he needs to find out how deep his attraction to men goes. On an altruistic mission to try and save his brother’s best friend from himself, Zach finds himself in essentially the gay Mecca. What he’s not prepared for is Henry, the kind hearted smokin’ hot uncle of his brother’s best friend.
Henry and Zach start a physical relationship that quickly turns into something more. Even though this is Zach’s first relationship with a man, he’s all in. Unfortunately Henry’s own issues cause him misgivings when it comes to Zach’s youth and experience.
This story is magic. Zach and Henry are perfect together in more ways than one. There is a lot to this story. Zach and Henry’s ability to parent both Zach’s teenage brother as well as Ty, Henry’s nephew is one of those things that put a smile on your face as you’re reading this story.
It also doesn’t hurt that Zach and Henry are smokin’ hot together. When I say Zach is all in when it comes to getting his “gay” on, I really mean he is all in. They both are so sexy, passionate, and caring…it was so good.
I absolutely recommend this book to m/m readers and especially fans of Cara Dee and of the series. We get little glimpses of past characters and it’s just as awesome as you can imagine.
Recommend.
