Matt Dorning likes his life just the way it is. Escorting provides him with enough money to live in his favorite city, New York, and he’s been doing it long enough that he knows the rules: don’t give it away when there’s always someone who’ll pay for it; always leave them wanting more; and never, never lose your heart to a client.
Lucas Sawyer is about to challenge all Matt’s rules. He’s a beautiful man who shouldn’t need to pay for sex, and yet Matt knows he’s the latest hooker in a long line. Lucas lives a life Matt can only dream of, but it doesn’t appear to make him happy: there’s something going on beneath that poised, self-assured exterior. And Matt also knows that his time with Lucas won’t last forever – escorts have a certain shelf life where he’s concerned.
So what happens when the man who doesn’t ‘do’ relationships, starts to question his life? Lucas is about to embark on a journey of self discovery…and Matt’s life is about to get messy…
Although this is part of the Material World series, it is a stand alone novella. Expect sex, silk, and sensuality.
REVIEW:
Silk is the fun, entertaining and sexy MM version of the classic Pretty Woman movie. This is the third book in A Material World series but each book is a standalone so it can be read and enjoyed without the previous stories. This was hands down my favorite in the series so far.
Ever since Pretty Woman hit the theaters lots of people love the idea of hooker/escort meets rich guy, falls in love and lives happily ever after scenario. I am definitely one of them. The idea of the plot might not be new but the writer’s take on the characters definitely is. Matt is not your ‘poor boy living in the street trying to get money to survive selling his body’ kind of guy. He has a great family, a fun entertaining job as an underwear model and he is also a hardworking member of his own family’s restaurant. He does escorting because he enjoys it. He loves having sex and getting paid for it. He does it because it is fun. He has a happy life and he is perfectly comfortable with his situation.
Lucas could be Richard Gere through and through. A super-rich businessman in his mid forties, earning millions, controlling tons of businesses, with graying hair and good built, a true silver fox if I ever saw one. He is also not entirely what you expect with his great family and his social anxiety. So the writer put some twists into the original idea and made it her own adding her signature great writing and amazing portrayal of exciting and intriguing places and people.
On the other hand, I would have liked a bit more depth in the personalities of our MCs. They share some truly sizzling chemistry and their sexy-times are wonderfully written, various and real fun, but I wanted to know more about their real personalities. The plot is well built, it has a pretty straight forward order, there is minimal angst, and good feels. I really liked the family scenes and the epilogue was a nice, romantic touch.
If you are looking for a fun, light, sexy read, this book is a good choice.
