REVIEW:
This series is getting really good. I am enjoying it immensely. Marshall Thornton has a way with words for sure.
We are back with Nick and three more mysteries that he is trying to solve. Three different cases that are pulling at him in different ways. There is also the return of his ex, Daniel, whom he has never really gotten over. Which leads to a dilemma in his love life. The first case involves a murder in which the killer has locked down all communication with his lawyer or anyone. He refuses help of any kind to figure out the truth. Nick figures he has been set up but he has to figure out why and who set him up. The second case he is hired to find out the truth behind why a porn star was killed out of the blue. The third case he has been hired to find the only missing living witness to a serial killer who has been killing gay kids.
In all these cases, we see a little more into Nick and who he is. We also see how much he really still loves his ex, Daniel, even though he has tried to move on with his life. Nick really is a compassionate man. He can seem very complex as well. He battles himself many times in cases but he keeps going no matter what. He digs at the truth for those who have been left behind and doesn’t stop even when it is a risk to his own life. He does all he can to protect the ones who are involved even when they slam the door in his face. And in these cases, the truth he has had to find has made him almost sick. I am coming to love Nick’s character more and more. With each book, you get a little more. And you can’t help but wonder what more is there to learn. In his own way, he is a hero.
In midst of all the turmoil, in finding these truths, his own love life is a mess. He has been getting closer to Bert in some ways and it others it seems like they are drifting apart. He wants to love Bert and in his own way he does but Daniel haunts him every day. And he seeks to bury what he feels for Daniel every time he gets laid. And that is quite often, lol. In the third case, Daniel has come back to possibly stay. Nick has never felt more at home than he has with Daniel and all the old feelings come back. But where does that leave him and Bert? He isn’t sure. And in a surprise ending, the author leaves us coming back for more.
