It’s going to be a long hot summer
John is an exceptionally good lawyer. He’s driven, arrogant and hides a warm heart underneath a façade of cool politeness. He’s used to people disliking him but for some reason when meeting Matt in London the other man’s open dislike of him bothers him. He’s therefore surprised to find himself offering Matt a place to stay in his villa in the South of France while he’s working nearby. He’s surprised because he’d actually planned to spend the summer working on his book and plotting to get his ex-wife back.
However, his perfect plans take a blow as the long hot summer progresses and the two men get closer, and John starts to nurse an unexpected attraction to his houseguest from hell.
Matt is John’s polar opposite. He’s warm, funny, sociable and scruffy. He loves people and they love him back. However, to his consternation he hates John more than he hates Marmite, and Marmite makes him vomit. He hates his arrogance, his public school voice and the air of superiority that he carries around. The idea of staying in his home with just him for company sounds torturous and not in a good way.
However, as the hot, lazy days slip by he’s forced to realise that maybe he’s not such a good judge of character after all, because underneath that arrogance is a warm, funny, vulnerable man who’s incredibly sexy. The only problem is that while Matt is gay John is completely straight and Matt now wants him more than he’s ever wanted anything in his life.
See what happens when two men who think that they have nothing in common apart from a past mutual hatred find out that they might actually be each other’s future.
From the author of the popular Beggar’s Choice series comes another scorchingly hot romantic comedy.
This is a spin-off from the Beggar’s Choice series. It features characters from the series but can be read as a complete standalone.
REVIEW:
Can I start with saying Wow! Gosh this was so good and kind of everything i needed in reading a good book to be honest. After reading the latest release from Lily Morton, Rule Breaker and falling totally in love with that book the characters and the writing of this author , I immideatly starting looking for other books by this author.
I found an m/f series but I also found this gem! a m/m spin of 🙂 And boy am I glad I took the chance in hoping it would really be indeed a standalone as said in the blurb. It absolutely was , yes you see references to the bad and members of Beggers Choice but this story totally stands on it’s own.
This novel tells us about Matt , best friend and right hand of Bram ( member of the band) and John the so called house lawyer of that said band.
To say they got of on the wrong end of ? when they met is an understatement, not having read the series I quickly got what happened in the small introduction way author Lily Morton summed it up. When band leader Charlie wants to have a house he bought in France cleaned reconstructed etc , he asks Matt to over see it. John having a house close by offers up a place to stay while he is taking a break in France himself.
Both man have succesfull jobs and fight with past relationships. John wanting to get his ex-wife back and Matt who just set his partner out after screwing up. But being in another different country together make things chance. A talk , A new formed friendship , a spark anything is possible …
Add a bit of drama into the mix and it often works as a great eyeopener. It is wondeful to read the journey of Matt and John and when you finally can breath and bask in their glow , author Lily Morton decides to trow then a curveball , one you could expect but still.
In the end it feels like all of the things happened were needed to bring them where they are in the end , to be secure and safe and totally in to eachother but also their lifes.
I cannot recommend this story highly enough. I am looking forward to any new m/m book this author will bring out.
(Something in me really wants to read Bram his story tough because i so hope to see more of Matt and John in that one too as Matt and Bram are like twins 🙂 )
