BLURB:
Dati Amon wants to be free from his satyr master and he hates his job—hunting human children who display demon balefire. Every hunt has been successful, except one. A thwarted attempt ended up as a promise to spare the child of a white witch, an indiscretion Dati hopes Master never discovers.
But Master has devilish machinations of his own. He needs human-demon hybrids, the Daimonion, to raise the Dark Lord to the earthly realm. If Master succeeds, he will be immortal and far more powerful.
The child who was spared is now a man, and for the first time in three hundred years, Dati has a reason to escape Master’s chains. To do that, Dati makes some unlikely alliances with an untrained soulless witch, a self-destructive shape shifter, and a deceitful clairvoyant. However, deals with demons rarely go as planned, and the cost is always higher than the original bargain
REVIEW:
Demons, satyrs, and witches oh my! My kind of book. I was hooked from the very beginning. The cast of characters in this book was amazing. The writing phenomenal. It snagged you from the beginning and you couldn’t put it down.
Dati is the main character whose life you just want to spare. A demon ensnared by a being much stronger, he is forced to hunt children who he can turn to be like him. Or others like him. But he just wants to be free. He runs across a child one night that changes his world. He just doesn’t know how much yet. I fell in love with Dati’s character from the get go. Despite being chained to an evil Master, he tries to do what’s right. He fights and tries not to do things at every turn. Although he is a demon, he has a conscience. He feels guilty at having to do things that his Master wants. I love that the author made Dati’s character so complex. He, unfortunately, is stuck until he can figure out a way out of his Master’s clutches.
Along the way, he teams up with more characters who also hate what is being done to them by the same Master. His world changes when he runs across the child that he saved. But that child is now a man. And a beautiful one at that. He will do anything he can to protect this man, but sometimes things don’t always work out as planned. He, along with the other slaves of Master, join together to try to stop Master and his evil plans. The book gets so interesting during all this. There are shape shifters, witches, and all sorts of other characters who are fighting to be free from this being. All while basically trying to save the world. There are all kinds of twists and turns and betrayals. Demons of any kind are never to be trusted as Dati knows and he’s quickly reminded of as he tries to save his man and gain his freedom. As time gets closer to the ‘end’, you root for Dati and his team to kick Master’s butt.
There is so much about this book I wish I could share with you but I would be giving too much away, lol. Can’t do that. It was an awesome journey to delve into and I’m anxious to see what the next book entails and how this journey continues. There is a relationship brewing between Dati and his man and there are twists to the world being saved. There are betrayals that come to light and I’m excited to see where this leads. An excellent way to start a series.
