“As long as you’re here, by my side, we can get through anything.”
Conner is an alpha with a secret. He’s not running from his past though, he’s looking forward to his future with Pippen. From first sight, Conner was attracted to Pippen’s rough yet lithe exterior. As likely to stab you as anything, Pippen’s trust is not easily given and Conner will do everything he can to gain it. Because despite his past, he knows Pippen belongs in his future.
“I don’t want to be that person anymore.”
Pippen’s childhood taught him how to be hard, how to hurt before you got hurt. Except, Conner makes him feel like there could be a different life for him, one where he is protected and maybe even loved. But the past never stays in the past and Pippen’s has returned with one thing on his mind, dragging Pippen back to the life of violence he thought he left.
Now that Conner finally has Pippen in his arms and in his bed, he can’t imagine a life without him. No matter what, he’ll put it all on the line while protecting Pippen.
REVIEW:
I think out of all of the books in this series so far, this may possibly be my favorite. I just love little Pippen. We finally get to see into his life and why he is the way he is. I love that the author has given all these boys a difficult past to come out of.
Pippen, since he joining Luke’s pack, has always been the quiet one. But he’s very deadly. He’s a young man who has practiced with knives and knows how to use them. What people haven’t realized, though, is that even though he may be quiet and deadly, there are reasons behind it. He is so full of insecurities from his past. He thinks that every little thing makes him weak. So he is determined to be the strong silent one who will back anyone up. Then he met Conner. Who will do anything for Pippen, including tailing wherever he goes to keep him safe. And boy does that get comical. Pippen is sure he can take care of himself and has proven it over and over but sometimes accepting help shows your strength, it’s not a weakness. And this is a lesson Pippen has to learn.
I feel for Pippen in this book. I loved him in all the books but we finally get to see what makes him tick, and it can be heartbreaking. He grew up in a violent atmosphere that made him not trust people and to ensure he hurt someone before they could hurt him. I feel for him because of this. No one should have a life like he has had, even though it is sad to say in real life it happens. But I love what the author does with him. Even though he thinks himself weak at any little thing and is very insecure, he remains strong as well. He does everything he can to keep himself out of that past situation and move forward and that is what makes him so strong. When he meets Conner he doesn’t feel worthy of someone even though he yearns for the man. Conner realizes that Pippen is his mate but he knows he is going to have to bulldoze through years of walls that Pippen has erected. And when the cracks start to show it is so worth it. We see a softer side to Pippen which I love. Because he finally gets to relax a little and just be. He can be wrapped in strong arms and feel safe whether he needs it or not. The softer side of Pippen is so beautiful it makes you cry. I love that Conner brings that out in Pippen. Now don’t get me wrong. It’s not always there. Pippen is a hardened young man and he and Conner butt heads a lot because Pippen has had to be so strong. But when you see it, it’s worth the tears you shed.
The author has done a wonderful job of conveying each life in these stories beautifully. And this is another good book. You get wound into the stories and can’t put it down. We have one more story in this series and I’m excited to say if you’ve been reading it is finally Frannie’s turn. I can’t wait to see how this ends!
