A warm Love Bytes welcome to author Garrett Leigh joining us today to answer some questions about her new release “House of Cards”, part of Riptide’s Portkennack series.
Welcome Garrett 🙂
1) How did you become a part of the Porthkennack universe, and what has that process been like?
I was lucky enough to be invited to take part by the Riptide team putting the series together. And I obviously jumped at the chance, because the premise was so awesome. The process has been amazing, and inspiring, as all the participating authors have been so into the wonderful world Alex Beecroft created for us.
2) Do you have any tattoos?
Yup. Loads. Mainly watercolour (so Lee from Blood Rush would be my artist of choice), but I have a random old school unicorn floating around my back somewhere…I think. I haven’t seen it in years.
3) Have you ever taken off with no destination in mind, as Calum does?
Not really. I’m a pretty anxious traveller, so I tend to plan journeys to death. But I’m getting better at being more spontaneous since I bought a camper van.
4) Are you friends with any other authors? How does such a relationship affect your own writing?
I’m friends with lots of authors, and the best thing about it is that there’s always someone around to help me out when I fuck up. Proofing, formatting, falling down a plot hole, I do it all, and having a solid crew of mates means there’s a support network there for all of us. That being said, I don’t think it particularly affects the content of what I write.
5) Let’s go old school. What did you do with your first royalty check?
Paid some bills, yo. This shit is real.
6) Lastly, if you could share just one teaser line from House of Cards, what would it be?
Because I’m a classy bird, like, it would have to be this one…
“If you want your bellend skewered, you’ll have to go to the scratcher down the road.”
About House of Cards
Calum Hardy’s life has unravelled. Reeling from the betrayal of a man he once loved, he boards a train heading south, with no real idea where he’s going except a world away from London.
Brix Lusmoore can hardly believe his eyes when he spots one of his oldest friends outside Truro station. He hasn’t seen Calum since he fled the capital himself four years ago, harbouring a life-changing secret. But despite the years of silence, their old bond remains, warm and true—and layered with simmering heat they’ve never forgotten.
Calum takes refuge with Brix and a job at his Porthkennack tattoo shop. Bit by bit, he rebuilds his life, but both men carry the ghosts of the past, and it will take more than a rekindled friendship and the magic of the Cornish coast to chase them away.

About Porthkennack
Welcome to Porthkennack, a charming Cornish seaside town with a long and sometimes sinister history. Legend says King Arthur’s Black Knight built the fort on the headland here, and it’s a certainty that the town was founded on the proceeds of smuggling, piracy on the high seas, and the deliberate wrecking of cargo ships on the rocky shore. Nowadays it draws in the tourists with sunshine and surfing, but locals know that the ghosts of its Gothic past are never far below the surface.
This collaborative story world is brought to you by five award-winning, best-selling British LGBTQ romance authors: Alex Beecroft, Joanna Chambers, Charlie Cochrane, Garrett Leigh, and JL Merrow. Follow Porthkennack and its inhabitants through the centuries and through the full rainbow spectrum with historical and contemporary stand-alone titles.
