When life gave you lemons, you learned who stayed and made lemonade with you. Or something to that effect. And the day Ellis Hayes kidnapped me—or, he borrowed a yacht and didn’t know I was on board—he’d definitely been handed too many lemons.
We faced a dilemma when I woke up hungover in the middle of the ocean. He needed to get the hell out of town to do some soul searching and decide whether or not to divorce his wife, and I needed to get back on land because humans didn’t belong on the water. There was also better cell service on land, and I had my four-year-old daughter on vacation in Paris to check in with.
Then I remembered I wasn’t a complete tool. Ellis wasn’t doing all right, and we were practically family. I had to stay and make lemonade with him. Of course, me being me, seemingly un-dateable and complicated, I had to develop feelings for him, too.
REVIEW:
Cara Dee shot to my auto-by list probably with the very first book I’ve ever read by her. This author is without a doubt, A-MAZING! Her writing is exceptional. The way she builds out her characters they always become so real to me. I think what I’ve gotten use to with Cara Dee’s writing is how she can make an unbelievably tragic story quite remarkable and hopeful. I think what was missing for me in this book, Uncomplicated Choices, was that level of intensity that I’ve grown to love from her. There is nothing wrong with the writing in this story but I’ll admit I was missing something. Something just felt off. Ellis and Casey were incredibly hot together but their almost “insta-love/attraction” was a little over the top. They got super lovey dovey right away and it almost felt like it worked but didn’t. I kept feeling like I was missing something. I really liked Casey but Ellis never really grew on me.
With Casey’s past he always feels like he is striking out in the love department. Being an out and proud bisexual man he doesn’t know why he can’t make a relationship stick. He has solid relationships all around him but finding a life partner has proven difficult.
Ellis knows one thing; he doesn’t want to stay in his marriage. He needs to start over…a fresh start…something new.
Ellis and Casey have been acquainted for years through their family. And the more time they spend together both men start developing feelings and love is soon to follow.
Some things to know…while Ellis is married in the story…I wouldn’t consider this a “cheating” story. Not at all. You’ll have to read it to see why I feel that way.
Also, I don’t know that I would say this was a true standalone story. I think I only recognized a few side characters but the main side characters I had no idea who they were. Books 1 & 2 of the series were without a doubt standalones…this one…hmmm, on the fence.
Overall, this was ok. Some things worked and some things didn’t and I’ll admit to being a little disappointed considering how much I loved Books 1 & 2.
