TITLE: Texting, AutoCorrect and a Prius
AUTHOR: M.A. Church
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 110 pages
RELEASE DATE: June 28, 2017
BLURB:
Clay McDonald finds the perfect car on Craigslist and is quick to send the seller a text:
Is your penis still for sale?
AutoCorrect strikes again. Damn—he should’ve proofread. How embarrassing.
Luckily Darrell Anderson, a mechanic and the owner of the Prius, is more amused than offended, and the two men agree to meet. When they do, the attraction is instant, and a date is arranged. But a series of mishaps, misunderstandings, and misplaced assumptions sorely test the new relationship.
In a contemporary romantic comedy about the perils of technology and dating in the modern world, a text that went so wrong might just lead to something so right—but only if Clay can refrain from jumping to conclusions and give love the benefit of the doubt.
REVIEW:
“Is your penis still for sale?” This sentence in the blurb sold this story for me. I was laughing out loud when I read it and I knew I had to know what happens in this book. I wasn’t disappointed.
Texting, AutoCorrect and a Prius is a light, fun entertaining short story and as one of my favorite book friends likes to call, a real beach read. You know that feeling when you just relax with a good book and want to have fun, but nothing too serious… well this one is a good choice for that.
AutoCorrect has made fun of all of us at one point or another. I am sure you, dear reader, have had enough laughs of falsely corrected words. Oh, yeah. I see that smile on your face…
The basic idea of the story is very simple but it is well exploited throughout the story getting all the fun and innuendos out of a misunderstanding/miswriting. I like the entertaining humor all along the story. Darrell and his brothers are a riot and their loving brotherly friendship was really well written.
Clay is a good partner in crime and Darrell and Clay’s chemistry was truly over the top sizzling hot.
The story started out a bit weird and during the first chapter I wasn’t sure whose story I’m going to read, but from then on things got cleared up and I could get into the flow and enjoyed the ride. I also secretly hope that Bret is going to get his own happy ending soon.
We have alternating third person POVs and it makes it possible for us to understand where these guys are coming from and get the motivation behind their actions. There is some sordid past, cheating exes, some misunderstanding and a strong attraction that helps our MCs overcome all the obstacles so they can try the minefield called dating to see if they are compatible on the long haul or not.
The writing is solid most of the time but there were a few parts that were a bit out of place. Some of the guys’ reactions did not match the picture in my head. The sexy-time scenes were well done, sensual and hot, even with Darrell’s inner turmoil thrown into the mix.
Overall it was a good read, I truly enjoyed the epilogue and I hope to read more about these guys later. Have fun.
