Confessions of a Wayward Teacher
Mori Reis Interviewed by Aubrey Cooper
Aubrey: So, Mori, why didn’t you go to the police and report Itsuma after he attacked you in the class room?
Mori: *looks at Aubrey horrified* Well, that’s rather blunt. *He rubs his temples and sighs* Look, even if I went to the police, I would have been the party to blame. It doesn’t matter if his advances were rebuffed or encouraged, it would be me in jail. That would have taught Itsuma that he can do anything he pleases, including… partaking in his teacher even if said teacher didn’t want that. The next time he tried forcing a person, someone could have a gun. Then Itsuma might have learned a lesson—permanently. No, he needed someone to take the reins and guide him.
Aubrey: Yeah, but you didn’t have to have sex with your student.
Mori: *Rolls his eyes* Okay, for the record, he was eighteen. Also, as I recall, I was the one tied, handcuffed, pinned and forced. Yet again, you prove to me that going to the police would have resulted in catastrophe. I would have been blamed. What? If I didn’t want it, I wouldn’t have dressed in a suit and tie? Is that your reasoning?
Aubrey: There would be some pissed off parents if they knew what you did.
Mori: Yes. They should be. But who teaches their kid that he can jump on anyone? Nobody was teaching him the life lessons he needed to learn. Nobody was giving him the attention he needed. At the rate he was going he’d have a god complex by now.
Aubrey: He kina already does.
Mori: Well at least he has a place to direct his frustrations.
Aubrey: Your hands-on approach also lead to Scott going to the hospital.
Mori: If society *Mori air quotes* had been doing its job *Mori air quotes again*, he would have been taken away from his family. But that would have traumatized him even more. Or here’s a better one… how was he allowed to stay with his family when he blatantly showed signs of abuse? Did you know Scott was being beaten because he was homosexual? Where was your social justice we he came to school black and blue?
Aubrey: *Shuffles in her seat uncomfortably* How are they doing now?
Mori: *He preens* Much better.
Aubrey: Since my brother hasn’t been home for a while, I’m assuming they are still living together?
Mori: *Smiles* Their living arrangement is none of your business.
Aubrey: Huh. I see. Moved them into your place already?
Mori: *He flushes a beautiful red* They have their own place.
Aubrey: Do you ever get jealous of either one?
Mori: Absolutely not. We have a unique dynamic.
Aubrey: So all three of you are in the bed.
Mori: Oh honey, sounds like you’re just hatin’ on my good thing.
Aubrey: Ooohkay then, I honestly have no interest in my brother’s sex life. Times up. Thank you so much for the interview. I know you don’t have a love affair with journalists, so I do appreciate your time.
Mori: For you, I have time. Say hello to your mother. We’ll come visit.
Aubrey: You better!
