A gay marriage of convenience plays out on reality TV.
Noah and Brenner are lifelong friends trying to make it to the top of the heap in Hollywood. When their agents inform them the new reality TV show only accepts married couples, a quickie wedding is in their future.
Brenner can’t shoot for second place. Only the top prize pays enough to cover his mother’s medical bills. He can’t be choosy about the roles he accepts– and he can’t tell anyone how tough it is to play the happy hubby of the guy he’s had a crush on for years.
Noah has screwed up on social media one time too many. Playing Brenner’s husband on the new show might be the only way to cash in on his bad boy image. Trouble is, he has a secret– and he doesn’t know how long he can keep it from Brenner when they’re sharing the same bed.
“Scripted” is a full-length 60,000 word contemporary gay romance novel with NO cheating, NO cliffhangers, and a guaranteed Happily Ever Ending. Expect a tropical island where clothes mysteriously disappear, best friends are destined to become lovers, and somebody is determined to hog all the cupcakes.
REVIEW:
I have read several of Parker Avrile’s books and thought that this sounded fun…I was not disappointed.
Noah and Brenner have been life long friends since growing up in the jungles of Central America with their parents on scientific expeditions. So when a chance for the actor and model to appear in a reality television show plops in their laps it is the perfect solution to Brenner’s mom’s mounting medical bills. The show offers a half million dollars grand prize to the winners. The only problem is that it is for a Christian Television channel and they have to be married! Neither man wants to screw up their lifelong friendship but Brenner’s mom’s life is on the line. So off they go to try and be the last team standing. The only problem is that they both have secret thoughts for the other, something they have never shared with anyone. “Scripted” is the story how these men battle against all odds to take home the money with both their dignity and hearts in tact.
I honestly like these two guys. They were willing to do anything possible to save Sylvia (Brenner’s mom) life. Even at the risk of having their own hearts shattered. And even though they were more than prepared physically to take on the challenge of the jungle island, they were totally unprepared for the emotional side of being so close as a married couple. I truly enjoyed how each knew just what the other needed to make it through.
When you think of this story think Survivor on a shoestring budget for a Christian Broadcasting Cable Network. It made me think stop and think about how much these reality television shows are really “scripted” for the outcome the producers want.
I think this is my most favorite book yet by the author. She put in just the right mix of humor, caring concern and drama to keep you turning the pages rapidly. I really enjoyed this one.
