REVIEW:
Wolf in King’s Clothing by Parker Foye
I’m not sure about this story. I’m afraid to say it might just be one of the strangest interpretations of a shifter romance story! The storyline is good but the way the MC Kent “talks” leaves a lot to be desired and it has nothing to do with the era the story is set in!
Wolf in King’s Clothing is set in York, England, 1912. Kent is a pack outcast, he was cursed, collared, had his tail removed by an evil witch and kept as a stray which means he is little more than a slave. The only way for the curse and collar to be removed is for Kent to buy a spell from another witch, one strong enough to be able to counteract it. A result of being collared is that Kent’s shifter instincts have been severely muted.
Kent has worked for Tabitha, a witch of some renown, only because Tabitha promised to remove the collar once he earnt enough. Kent is sent on a retrieval mission for Tabitha, retrieve a lost item, Hadrian. It turns out that Hadrian is Kent’s mate but Kent is so unsocialized that he doesn’t realise it, the only thing Kent knows is that Hadrian smells divine to him.

The Alpha’s Claim by Holley Trent
I enjoyed reading this story very much. I especially enjoyed Teddy’s straightforwardness and the way he never lets anyone walk over or take advantage of him.
The Alpha’s Claim is about Teddy and Jim. Teddy is human, he works at the local pancake house restaurant, until he makes it as an actor. Jim is the local Coyote Pack’s Alpha, Jim is also the owner of W. Company, an auto supply retailer who is the largest employer in Chesterton. Three months ago, when Jim and some pack members were in the pancake house he smelt his mate, that’s when he discovered Teddy.
Jim has some very strange ideas about wooing his mate!! Teddy is just about to wring his neck when Jim decides to make his move and makes it clear to Teddy that he wants to date him. As Teddy and Jim get closer Jim learns that Teddy has an almost pathological fear of dogs, all dogs as he was attacked a bitten by one as a child. This is not what Jim was expecting, add to that the tension in the pack is at an all-time high with a few pack members feeling that Jim has become an ineffective Alpha and trying to take over. This is a worthwhile read to find out if Jim and Teddy find a way to be together.

Dark Water by K.L. White
The magnificent Kelpies who haunt the waters, shape-shifting from horse to human, are disappearing into legend. Their numbers are dwindling, and they must take a human sacrifice twice a year to survive.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. This is a story about a totally straight navy officer who has never thought about a man in a sexual way discovering that he does in fact have feelings for his best friend, then coming to terms with what that means for both of them.
Benjamin and Rez were in the Navy together. They were best friends in so far as you can be in the military. Benjamin was the most talented diver the navy had ever seen, he always lived on the edge of death, a crazy kind of brave, he took on missions that most times defied death. Rez was a navy officer when he was enlisted until he was thought to have died in action. Whilst Benjamin loved Rez, Rez was in love with Benjamin as he has always known that Benjamin is his mate but he never said anything because, as the lead Kelpie stallion Rez has an obligation to mate with a female Kelpie and produce strong foals because their numbers were dwindling at a rapid rate. In the same explosion that Rez was thought to have died Benjamin was badly injured, he’s now blind and broken all he wants to do is join his best friend in death!
When Rez comes ashore to mark his sacrifice he accidentally marks Benjamin, when he realises what he’s done Rez then must find a way to remove the mark. Benjamin has decided to walk into the ocean and join Rez in death right up til someone pulls him out of the water and he realises that the person is the one person he has been wanting to see and talk to for a long time, Rez!! Benjamin has not had a response to anyone, not even the nurses in the hospital. He thought that part of his life was over as well until he gets close to Rez, then strange things start happening and Benjamin is left feeling even more lost than he had before.
I know it’s a short story but the overall storyline is screaming for a lot more depth and detail. I would have loved to have read more about Benjamin and Rez’s relationship.
