REVIEW:
Ok. Ok. So I read this book, and it destroyed me. I want to hate it. I mean, it’s a love story, right. And after a love story you get a happily ever after and everyone hugs and kisses. Maybe there’s a perfect couple and some hot sex and you think, “Wow, that was such a sweet story,” and knowing you’ve read half a dozen just like it.
But not this story. That’s not this journey. This story is so real. It is, rip out your heart and show it to you while you die, real. And as I read it, after I realized what was happening, I just couldn’t stop. I couldn’t put it down.
We meet David, and he’s going into a bar. And it’s clear from all the prose, that he is just NOT good with meeting up with Phillip. But he goes anyway. He has to. He’s even completely oblivious to the hot bartender’s flirting. He’s just this broken man, lost in the past.
As the story unfolds, and I am not going to give a full synopsis because it just gives away too much. The only thing you need to know is that David loved Phillip, and Phillip loved David, and they both loved Alice. Now Alice was gone, and somewhere along the way, David and Phillip lost each other as well as Alice. And David is wracked with guilt.
Olive Juice is a love story – in every sense of the word. The love between the characters leaps off the page and bleeds down your throat. TJ Klune created a beautifully written world full of pain and love, guilt and the hope of redemption. Read this book. Just bring a handkerchief and get ready for an ugly cry. I could not give it a higher recommendation.
