Detective Jack Mitchell is not a people person. After fourteen years dealing with the monsters of society, he has learned to keep people at arm’s length. Failing is his biggest frustration, and on the case of his career, he is having no luck hunting down a copycat serial killer…or the one man who survived the original case.
Six years ago, Will Blaikie was taken by a monster who changed his life forever. Narrowly surviving, he has become a prisoner in his own home. Friendless and alone, he watches in horror as a new monster emerges who only wants to copy the murderous deeds of Will’s monster…including taking Will.
When these two men are thrown together, and the monster comes for them both, one must learn to feel safe and protected, and the other must learn to feel love and peace.
REVIEW:
I love finding new authors. Saved is Karrie Roman’s debut novel and she is definitely an author I will be watching out for in the future.
Will Blaikie suffered at the hands of a mad man and was the only victim to survive however the effects of his imprisonment and torture are still ruling his life. Plagued by nightmares and almost housebound due to fear Will lives a solitary life with an aging dog who farts a lot. The story doesn’t delve too much into Will’s past but we know enough to realise quickly that when young men start going missing the Police have a copycat on their hands and once again it appears the monster has set his sights on Will.
Detective Jack Mitchell is a grumpy arse but he takes his job very seriously. He is frustrated as hell when yet another young man goes missing and he turns to Will to see if he can remember anything that will aid his investigation. Although they don’t exactly hit it off when they first meet there is an undeniable attraction between the two men that deepens when Jack has to spend every night with Will as his protector. There is a definite insta something going on here but it’s not exactly love but nor is it lust – it’s too romantic for either of those. Both men feel it and both men struggle with it a little due to who they are. Will has no relationship experience at all but he feels ready to change that as he feels so safe around Jack. Jack is a loner and isn’t used to people being in his space but he finds suddenly that he doesn’t like being away from Will.
Before either man can really get to grips with how they are feeling the copycat strikes again and everyone’s lives are turned upside down. For Jack saving Will is all that matters but when he fails it’s left to Will to conquer his fears and defeat his monsters. I would highly recommend Saved if you are looking for a sexy romance with a thrill.
