Callum Ross has a tough decision to make. After years of working for the covert ops agency in the UK and owning his own security firm in the US, he’s forced to choose between the business he loves, and the new relationship with his partner, Josh Cooper.
A bottle of whiskey and Josh almost being killed helps Cal make the decision, and he moves to the UK with plans to set up his own security consultancy. Then the head of the covert ops agency where Josh now works asks Cal for help. Agency operatives and their families are being injured or killed, including Cal’s friends.
Cal is asked to investigate with Josh’s assistance. As the number of victims increase, they’re aware either of them could be the next target for the killer.
REVIEW:
It’s no secret that I like Ms. Brown’s stories. In fact, I can’t remember any that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed. I remember when I reviewed Morning My Angel, the first book in this series, and I was as impressed as I was with this one. I also wanted the story to continue, so I’m glad it did. I’m not excited to have to tell you that this second one ends in a total cliffhanger/abrupt stop though. I’m glad there will be more, but I’m chewing my nails and hoping it is soon!
Grumbling over, let’s talk about this new story. We’re back with Callum and Josh who we met in the previous story. Josh, following his departure from Callum’s company (because of fraternization rules), is working for ‘the agency’ in the UK. Callum is in Seattle, or rather he is for a short time before he joins Josh in the UK and the story proceeds.
This one has a lot of action. There is a shadowy killer targeting the agency and its employees. Who could it be? Could it be more than one person? Can Josh, with Callum’s help figure out who it is in time to save their friends and themselves? I really enjoyed the tenseness and drawn out answers we got in this one. As the book got nearer and nearer the end, the pace of the story picked up even further and pulled me in and along. I was eagerly flipping pages, and you will be as well. It is that kind of story. Then it happened… I’ll admit it, I yelled out-loud at the last line. So loudly that my husband who was in another room came in to see if I was okay! But what a rollercoaster ride!
I highly recommend this one. I would definitely recommend reading book one first. Both are free on Kindle Unlimited, so why not splurge and get them both?
