An online date as a favor to a friend is about to change Kyle Ballantine’s life–in ways he never dreamed possible.
Kyle Ballantine is not looking forward to Valentine’s Day. Even though he’s been invited to a party, he feels intimidated as he’ll have to go on his own. He’s been dateless for the past six months, so when his best friend Paul, asks him to go on an online date with a man he’d arranged to meet but now can’t because of a family commitment, Kyle figures he has nothing to lose, but time.
Meeting someone as gorgeous as Erik Kelemen was not what Kyle expected, nor the whirlwind romance that follows. Kyle and Erik seem like the perfect match, but there’s something different about Erik, something Kyle can’t quite put his finger on– until a stranger arrives at Kyle’s apartment with a revelation that has him questioning the man’s sanity.
But if the stranger is telling the truth, then Kyle and Erik’s future together is doomed, along with Kyle’s dream of finding that perfect, but elusive, Valentine.
REVIEW:
This is a delightful and delicious novella set in the Vampire and I world. Kyle is a hardworking good guy. He’s a human and like many others, stuck in a bit of a rut as far as his job and love life are concerned. Sure, Kyle has loving friends who try to coax him to be more sociable but he’s just restless; convinced that there’s no one out there for him. His best friend asks him to act as a fill in for him for an online date. This one date changed Kyle’s life.
Erik is a vampire who was searching for his mate. He had visions of him, waiting to be reunited with Adrien, the love he lost centuries ago and when he meets Kyle, he’s reunited with his beloved Adrien. Or the reincarnation of Adrien.
This story was the perfect little read for Valentine’s Day. Bowie’s vampire characters are up there with Anne Rice’s mainstream vampires. I’ve said this on several occasions in reference to this author’s vampire characters. His writing style is superb. His editing, plots, storylines are absolutely magnificent. I have yet to read a bad or even mediocre book from this author whether he’s writing about vampires or cowboys—the level of perfection he displays in his work is not missed.
Bowie’s vampires are gorgeous and sophisticated, intelligent and always refined. I absolutely adore his vampire characters and stories. There are no plot holes and it doesn’t leave you feeling like you’ve missed something at the ending. This novella is short, hot and sweet. It’s a novella yet the characters and storylines are so well developed it reads like a 300 hundred page length novel. It’s a snack that feels like a full course meal. And it was delicious.
This is another must read from this author.
