David James is smart, successful, handsome… and alone. After the death of his lover, Kyle, from cancer, he buried himself in his law practice and the gym. At forty-eight, he is haunted by his memories and walled off from the world. When David injures himself working out, he’s assigned to Brandon Smith for physical therapy. The vibrant young therapist is attracted to David and realizes he needs a hand to get back into dating. What begins as a practice coffee date escalates to friendship, passion, and maybe something more, as they navigate a new relationship in Washington, DC, and the gay mecca of Provincetown.
But David remains trapped behind the barrier of fear and guilt. Will he remain loyal to Kyle’s memory if he moves on? Can he and Brandon manage a twenty-two-year age gap? Brandon thinks he understands David’s concerns, and for him, the answer to those questions is yes. He wants to be with David, and he believes he can overcome David’s barriers. But Brandon fails to account for the world’s reaction to a handsome young man attached to an older, wealthy lover. David’s memories, Brandon’s pride, and an unexpected tragedy might cost them something very special.
REVIEW:
Not going to lie…this one totally got me. This is an incredible love after loss story. The emotional pull in this story is unbelievable. Just when you think things are leveling off and you can relax…boom something else happens and then you’re busting out the Kleenex again. I really enjoyed this story. The writing was captivating and the characters were remarkable. I just loved David and Brandon but mostly David. He was exceptional and so steadfast when he decided to go all in with Brandon.
David James is a successful lawyer. A couple years after his long time lovers’ death David still isn’t dating. Emotionally unavailable, David prefers to be alone working out at the gym and looking over cases. Recently hurt while at the gym David finds himself in the hands a very attractive Physical Therapist.
Physical Therapist Brandon is unprepared for the sexy, much older new patient David. It’s an immediate attraction but Brandon know all kinds of rules would be broken if he pursues his feelings.
David hasn’t been with anyone in over 2 years and starting a relationship with a man so much younger leaves him apprehensive.
Things heat up between Brandon and David and the connection is undeniable. This romance is anything but smooth sailing however. Machinations involving friends on both sides’ leaves Brandon and David at odds. Also certain insecurities play a huge factor in their evolving relationship.
A lot of things transpire in the short time these two are together and they are dealt a pretty big blow. But one thing these two are not is quitters and its amazing watching them grow as a couple.
If you couldn’t tell I really enjoyed this book. So well thought out and put together.
Absolutely recommend.
