Love Bytes says hello and welcome to author Karen Stivali joining us today to talk about her new release “Moment of Fate”, book 5 in the Moment in Time series.
Dream Casts and Inspiration
A lot of authors use inspiration boards to create their characters and to help visualize them. I don’t do this. I prefer to conjure my characters in my head, paint them exactly as they appear to me as I’m crafting and telling their story, then afterward go in search of who I think could best depict them.
I don’t want to risk copyright infringement by posting photos of actors, so I’ve created a Pinterest board instead where you can enjoy multiple images of the two actors who I think would be best suited to play Bryan and Oliver, the main characters from my new release MOMENT OF FATE. You can view it here: https://www.pinterest.com/karenstivali/moment-of-fate/
Bryan is a dark haired, blue eyed, drop dead sexy musician. He’s tattooed, has had long hair in the past but wears it shorter now, is pierced and has tattoos, and is prone to wearing eyeliner when he’s the front man in Wasabi Incident, the up-and-coming band that’s taken up huge amounts of his time the past several years. (Although this is a standalone book, readers who are familiar with the series will remember Bryan and Wasabi Incident from Moment Of Truth as he was one of the housemates on Fire Island). To me, a younger version of Jared Leto depicts the smoldering sexuality of Bryan just about perfectly. Soulful, intense, artistic, introspective yet with a charismatic presence that can fill a room
Oliver is New Hampshire born and raised and has a much more wholesome feel to him, but is no less sex. Bryan first notices his kaleidoscope eyes that have flecks of every color and seem to change with his moods. He’s a teacher and a writer and exudes a calm, grounding energy along with a slow-burn sexuality that’s simmering just below the surface. He’s spent his entire life hiding his sexuality and thinking he’d always have to settle for less than what he desired. With Bryan he realizes this isn’t true—that he can be and have everything he’s always wanted. In my mind Oliver could easily be played by Theo James. The sexy, innocent boy next door who’s not quite aware of just how sexy he is.
Oh, and Bryan’s black cat, Ink, plays an important role in the story too. His approval of Oliver goes a long way in terms of allowing Bryan to learn to trust and let someone into his life. Ink is pictured on the Pinterest board as well, by an unknown but adorable kitty.

A Moments In Time Novel
Bryan Dane’s been living the dream—photography student by day, up-and-coming rocker by night. His summer goals are to earn his last few credits, graduate from NYU, spend as much time in the recording studio as possible, and survive the next few months without sex so he can complete his yearlong goal of self-imposed celibacy. Everything is on track until he meets Oliver Newcastle.
For years Oliver planned a marriage of convenience with his high school BFF, but now that she’s fallen in love for real with someone else, it’s no longer convenient. So Oliver came out to his family, quit his job, and left small-town New England for NYC, an intensive summer study program, and a chance to find his own happiness.
From the moment they meet, the sexual tension between Bryan and Oliver sizzles. But Bryan wants no part of a relationship, and Oliver wants to sow his wild oats—he just isn’t sure how. Oliver seeks Bryan’s help navigating the NYC gay scene, which throws them together in increasingly more sexual situations until they can no longer deny they’re hot for each other. Bryan is desperate to keep things simple, but fate may have other plans.
This is a standalone novel set in the Moments In Time world. You do not need to have read any of the previous titles to enjoy this book.
