Wrong place, right time.
Carter O’Conner exemplifies the term wrong place, wrong time when he gets between a hitman and that hitman’s prey. Sure he’s the next to die, he steels himself, refusing to give the killer the satisfaction of seeing his fear, even though he’s shaking like a leaf on the inside.
Antony Rosetta can’t ignore the man’s interesting reaction. Accustomed to begging and pleading, he respects the male escort’s strength… and struggles to forget the man after he walks away. As the weeks pass, his fantasies propel him to search for Carter and see what makes the man tick.
Carter doesn’t want to head out on another assignment but, after weeks of denial, he’s nowhere closer to paying his tuition bill. Accepting the address from his handler, he winds up before the hitman, afraid he’ll face death after all.
Instead, he confronts a passion too much for him to handle. Can these two broken men become whole in each other’s arms?
REVIEW:
This was an interesting short story. It started out really well. I was immediately sucked into the story. The atrocities that could have befallen young Antony are unimaginable. But it’s not surprising the route his life took considering how he began. Kelex is a new author to me and it’s obvious she likes a darker story which is a good thing because I appreciate them as well. Good writing, engaging…this story lost me along the way however. I don’t know. I struggle with instalove in general but this one was definitely more lust than love. The emotional connection between the two characters is pretty weak. This isn’t a love of the ages type of story….this is a suspense, thriller, lust filled, story with the hope of an HEA.
Carter and Antony meet and the connection is undeniable. It doesn’t matter that Carter is naked having just witnessed his potential client get murdered. And it doesn’t matter that Antony is the murderer. What matters is these two are hot for each other and it’s palpable.
After the investigation free and clear, Carter still has tuition that needs to be paid so he finds himself at another client’s house. This time it’s Antony’s house and the connection is just as hot as ever.
Both men run from their feelings but circumstances have already been set in motion that brings them together again, sealing their fate.
Like I mentioned this is a short relatively fast paced love/action story. Well written and flowed well. I’d have liked more just because I feel it would have made my connection with the characters stronger which in turn would have made me more invested but overall I liked it.
