A second chance born of love.
Pat Corrigan and Edgerton “Edge” Winters were ready to start a family–or so Pat thought. At the last minute, Edge got cold feet and fled. Pat didn’t bother telling him the conception had already gone through and little Emma was on her way. He didn’t want a relationship based on obligation. He’d rather raise his daughter on his own.
Nine years later, Emma and her Poppy are doing fine. Edge isn’t. He realizes what he threw away by leaving, and he’s back to turn his life around and reclaim his family. It’ll take a lot to prove to Pat that he’s a new man, and even if Edge succeeds, the secret Pat has hidden for years might shatter their dreams all over again.
REVIEW:
I love a good second chance love story and this was a really sweet one.
Pat Corrigan and Edgerton “Edge” Winters were young lovers who have been broken up for nine years, after Edge got cold feet, left suddenly and broke Pat’s heart in the process. Pat went on to have the family he dreamed of…without Edge. He was comfortable in his life with his precious daughter Emma. So what if he had no literally social life at all in the past nine years. All of a sudden Edge shows back up in town and it is obvious that he wants Pat back. But Pat was burned badly by Edge’s abrupt exit and wants nothing to do with him. If only he could convince his traitorous body what his head and heart think they know. That and the huge secret he has kept for nine long years. He knows he needs to steer clear of Edge but is finding it increasingly more difficult as the days go on. “Poppy’s Secret” is the story of how things proceed when two men listen to their hearts instead of logical reason.
Pat is a great guy. He takes care of everyone, most of the time at his own expense, but that is how it has always been. He loves his free-spirited mom, who definitely wasn’t the model mom growing up, despite her short comings. His little girl, Emma, is his entire life. She is who makes him feel complete and comfortable with who he is and how his life has turned out. He has devoted his entire life to her since the moment she was born and it’s not going to change. He doesn’t have time for complicated things like men and relationships. Edge realized way too late what was important to him, his art and Pat. He was really young when Pat wanted to up the stakes in their relationship with a baby, so he panicked and bolted. But after awhile Edge realized what he gave up and it eventually took its toll on him. He’s back in town and knows he has the challenge of a lifetime to try and get back in Pat’s good graces and into his heart. Plus Pat has truly moved on in his life and accomplished what he desired, a family.
Pat was maybe a bit easy on forgiveness. But I think, when he realized what was Edge’s true reasons for leaving, plus Pat’s huge secret, he was softer than most to forgive. Plus he had grown up constantly forgiving his Mom’s transgressions so I believe that made him forgive faster. It was Edge that I was the most worried about. Pat’s secret could have literally devastated him.
This was a sweet, easy-to-read story that not only included second chance love but it is a tale of how love conquers and makes forgiving the one you truly love easier in the end. This was my first Andrew Grey novel and it won’t be my last.
