BLURB:
Firefighter Jason “Jase” Weller and EMT Scott Bronson are living the perfect life. They work together in jobs they love, they live together, and in their downtime, they still can’t get enough of each other. It’s been six amazing years. Then on Christmas Eve, Jase’s former lover Elsa shows up with a six-year-old girl in tow. The strung-out junkie claims Kerry is Jase’s daughter and it’s his turn to care for her, and then she walks out.
Shocked at both the fact that Elsa is now a junkie and that he has a daughter he never knew about, Jase nonetheless steps up to the plate as her father and Scott offers his full support. Having an instant family comes with plenty of challenges, and the two men work to deal with sweeping changes in their lives and to make things right for Kerry.
It’s not going to be easy, and their new circumstances test them and their relationship like nothing ever has. They’ll need all the love they have for each other—and the love they discover for their daughter—to keep from breaking apart.
REVIEW:
It’s Christmas Eve and Jase and Scott are looking forward to some time off from their jobs as an EMT and firefighter. They’d just returned from a call-out when Jase had a visitor out front, although he doesn’t recognize the drug addict at first it turns out the person is Jase’s ex Elsa and his daughter Karissa. Jase had no idea Elsa was pregnant let alone that he had a daughter! Although Jase is shocked when Elsa informs him she had tried everything to get rid of Kerry both whilst she was pregnant and since her birth he is truly horrified when she informs him she has tried to sell her but no-one would buy her.
Although Jase and Scott have been in a committed relationship for 6 years it isn’t until his ex turns up with his daughter that Scott finds out Jase had a twin sister Karissa who his daughter is named after. Scott is shocked and disgusted by the thought that Jase had a relationship with a “crack whore”, not only a relationship but he had to have had unprotected sex with her as well!! They were definitely going to have to sit down and have a long talk. The strange part is that neither Jase nor Scott ever really question the reality of Kerry being Jase’s daughter, they just accept that Elsa is telling the truth.
The story gets a bit hazy after that, Jase is stunned but happy that he has a daughter, Scott is stunned, overwhelmed and scared. Even though they are madly in love with each other Scott has all these thoughts running through his head, will he have to move out now that Jase has a daughter, will their relationship continue as it has for the last 6 years? Scott is lost and Jase is just trying to come to terms with the fact that he’s a father.
Even though it takes a lot of adjustment on both their parts Jase and Scott slowly adjust to the fact that they’re now a family, with a daughter, a little girl who now depends on them both for everything. As seems to happen a lot, both Jase and Scott end up coming at the situation from totally different angles, Jase is trying to make up for the first 6 years he missed and Scott is trying to be as accommodating as he can, so accommodating that when Jase mentions that the lawyer says it will make it easier to gain custody if they’re married, Scott says of course, let’s get married! The one thing they both miss by a mile is communicating with each other, they spend all their energy assuming and as per usual they get it wrong!!
I have no hesitation in recommending Add Love and Mix as a must read. It is a feel good love story with a lot of mystery, angst but most of all there is a lot of love! Besides all that you’ll get to find out if Jase and Scott work everything out and have their HEA!
