BLURB:
As prince of the Anzuni demon clan, Jerricho’s entire life has been planned for him. At twenty-five, he will become the crown prince of the Anzuni, marry a man chosen by his parents, and bear his husband’s children all without choice. If that wasn’t enough, he must remain a virgin until his wedding night. To do otherwise would spark an unimaginable scandal.
With only ten months until his twenty-fifth birthday, the walls close in on Jerry, and the realization that he will lose his small apartment, his job at the library, and his freedom hits hard. But that’s nothing compared to losing the man he loves. Rex is a smart and sexy construction foreman with a keen interest in demon “mythology.” When Jerry and Rex give in to spending one night together, their indiscretion can’t be kept secret for long. But that’s only the beginning of their problems.
Someone wants to harness the power of Jerry’s bloodline and his ability to conceive—someone with designs on horrifying experiments, sex slavery, and murder. Jerry and Rex are at the mercy of power-hungry sadists. With no one left to trust, they must fight for each other, their freedom—and their unborn child.
REVIEW:
This was…bizarre. This story went a completely different way then what I initially thought. In some cases that could actually be a good thing. But with this story…honestly it wasn’t bad, it was just odd. This is my first book by Jake C. Wallace and I did enjoy the writing style. The first part of the book was incredibly interesting. I liked the paranormal element and the chemistry between Rex and Jerricho was undeniable. The way this story was planned out and developed had me intrigued at first but the big suspenseful moment that happens was just puzzling maybe because so much was actually happening. This story is convoluted to the extreme, know that going in.
Not to give the big plot twist away I’m going to be as vague as possible. Jerricho and Rex hit it off almost immediately after their initial meeting. They wind up spending a lot of time together at the library and sharing common interests. Jerricho is extremely attracted to Rex but Jerricho’s future has already been decided so he knows his attraction can’t lead anywhere. Plus he thinks it’s only one sided.
Rex surprises Jerricho, however and the two spend a smokin’ hot night together. There are repercussions to their tryst which puts both Jerricho and Rex in mortal danger.
Fighting for their lives and the life of their baby leaves Jerricho and Rex’s bond stronger than ever. They know they must survive any and everything thrown at them.
Like I mentioned there is a ton going on in this story. And it’s a longer book so you have to pay attention or you could miss something and get confused.
Overall, it was just ok for me. I envisioned the story going one way so when it took a sharp left it was unexpected and left me a little bereft.
