Love and trust made them soul mates, but destiny might have other plans.
Ever since Drake Carpenter fell in love with warlock Mason Blackmoor, his life has been one supernatural battle after another, but Drake doesn’t mind… much. To be with Mason and experience the magical connection they share, Drake would face entire hordes of vampyren, shifters, or fae–and he has. Luckily Drake is immune to magic, though no one can explain his natural ability to negate almost any enchantment. With Drake’s own family gone, Mason is all he has. So why is Drake experiencing disturbing dreams about Mason that terrify him?
A new threat looms on the horizon, and a revelation about Drake’s identity and the true origin of his bond with Mason shatters everything Drake believes. If Drake, Mason, and all of magic are to survive the coming Spell Fall, the most destructive curse in sorcery, Drake must deal with the truth and fight his way back to Mason–because their enemies are gaining strength, and they intend to reach the boy Drake loves first.
REVIEW:
In the first Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge we met Drake and Mason. Mason is the youngest of the Warlock Brothers and a giant pain in the ass. Drake seemed to be a normal human being, until strange things started to happen. Now we know Drake is somehow immune to most magic, except Mason’s. Mason is a Shadow weaver, which is so rare it there hasn’t been one in five hundred years.
In this book we learn why it is that Drake is so special, and why he’s not immune to Mason’s magic. It’s a thrilling story line that had me on the edge of my seat once I got to the point of understanding where this was going. Mason and Drake face a very dangerous enemy, but what even more terrifying is that they have to face something that’s not coming from the outside. They have to fight themselves, which was the scariest part of this story for me.
I don’t want to give away too much, so I won’t dive into the matter any further. But I will try to convey to you why I liked this fourth book in this series. I already loved Mason and Drake in the first book, and them being spell bound (soul mates) is like a gay fairy tale. But in this book we learn it’s more than just love. That they had (did) tot make a choice was surprising, yet even more romantic that the Spell Bound book. There was also enough mystery left over to make you want to read the next book…and the next. To be perfectly honest with you guys, I did something naughty during the reading. (get your minds out of the gutter, you pervs) I contacted the author to ask him if there would be a HEA or at least a HFN, because there were moments where I feared a big fat cliffhanger I didn’t want to deal. Mason and Drake are my favorite coupe from this series and they needed to have at least a happy for now. Thank god the author told me “you’ll be fine.” And yes, that was all he gave me, grrr.
But getting back to the story. It was awesome. Enough love, sex, tension and excitement to keep you want to read on. It’s a worthy sequel of Drake and Mason’s story, told from Drake’s point of view. A definite recommended read for me.
