REVIEW:
Strangely enough this is my first KJ Charles book. I’m not overly drawn to historical M/M romance but this story I liked, a lot. This author really caught my attention with how this story developed and kept me engaged throughout. I loved the mystery aspect, I loved the hunt and the chase, and I really liked the slow burn romance between Martin and Theo.
Theo Swann has never been able to recover from the mistakes of his youth. Literally living payment to payment, Theo never turns down money. With his marriage publication a moderate success he’s able to keep his debtors at bay. He’s unprepared for Martin St. Vincent to barge into his office demanding information about his business, but the attraction he feels can’t be denied.
Feeling indebted to “family friends” Martin sets out with Theo on a mission of great importance. The story takes us on a carriage adventure to save a “damsel in distress.”
I really enjoyed the adventure elements as well as the machinations involved. There are deep seeded personal issues involving both characters that really help in understanding why they feel the way they do.
Like I mentioned earlier the characters were so engaging and I really loved them together and the ending was just sweet enough to make me smile.
Overall, this was a great story with amazing elements to keep the reader engaged with a little bit of mystery and adventure.
Recommend.
