A warm welcome to author Jeff Adams joining us today to talk about his new release “Love’s Opening Night”.
Jeff talks about his story and he also brought with him a giveaway to participate in!
Welcome Jeff 🙂
Thanks, Dani, for hosting me so I can spread the word about my new release, Love’s Opening Night.
I enjoyed writing this book because it brought me back to writing about the performing arts, which I hadn’t done since I revisited Dancing for Him almost a year ago. I love dance and theater almost as much as I do hockey (which is something that ends up in most of my books—but not this one). There’s something about the exuberance and creativity of the arts that make the characters fun to write.
This is the first time, however, that I’ve put two performers together. I enjoyed exploring this from the angle of two co-workers getting together and the potential strain that could put on them. The other issue for Jeremy and Ty is that Ty is a celebrity. As Jeremy notes at one point, Ty isn’t a huge star, like Hugh Jackman, but he’s a star none the less. Jeremy, while a long time stage performer, isn’t anywhere near Ty’s level of fame. Jeremy can feel that Ty is out of his league.
Jeremy considers this a lot because he doesn’t want to cause trouble—for himself, Ty or the show. Of course, this being a romance, there’s has to be and HEA and I enjoyed finding different ways to bring these two together that would help quell Jeremy’s concern.
Using Broadway as a background was definitely part of the fun of writing the story as I tried to see how many different show references I could make the guys use without going too far. One of my favorite remarks though is actually from a movie—Showgirls. You’ll have to read the story to see how I use the film, but know that it gives me a chuckle when I read that passage. I hope it has the same affect for you.
I hope you take the plunge and raise the curtain on Love’s Opening Night. The buy links, of course, are here, but there’s also a Rafflecopter that’ll give you the chance to win a copy.

BLURB:
Can an onstage love story lead to a real-life romance?
Jeremy Steele is a veteran Broadway performer. For his latest role, he’s dancing alongside a man he’s fantasized about for years, TV star Ty Beaumont. Jeremy knows better than to get involved with a castmate, but when Ty has trouble learning the complicated choreography, Jeremy offers to lend a hand. When a rehearsal kiss turns into something more, Jeremy can’t help but wonder what a celebrity like Ty could ever see in a Broadway chorus boy like him. Will a relationship with his crush make it past previews, or can it become a long-running hit?

Jeff’s written stories since he was in middle school and became a gay romance writer in 2009 when his first short stories were published. Since then he’s written several more shorts and novels, including some in the young adult genre, and he plans to keep writing as long as wonderful readers keeping picking up his books.
Jeff lives in rural Northern California with his husband of twenty years, Will. Some of his favorite things include the musicals Rent and [title of show], the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins hockey teams, and the reality TV competition So You Think You Can Dance. If forced to pick his favorite book it would be a tie between Michael Chabon’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay and David Levithan’s Every Day.
Jeff is also the co-host of Jeff & Will’s Big Gay Fiction Podcast.

I love “Rent” also, such a great play and message. Good luck on the new book it sounds like a great read.
Thanks, Heath! “Rent” is awesome and the message resonates just as good today as it did 20 years ago. I’m super excited because the 20th Anniversary Tour is coming to the college that’s just 10 minutes away from me. It’s a two night run, and I’ll be there both of them because of that kind of RENThead. 🙂
Thank you for sharing more insight about the book. I really like the title and while I don’t know a lot of show trivia, I think it’ll be fun to spot the references. 🙂 Happy New Year, Jeff!
Hi Peaches and Happy New Year! I hope you enjoy the book when you pick it up! Thanks for stopping by.
