BLURB:

Other than working the front desk of a gay bathhouse in Denver, Brian McKay is a bit of a recluse. At the best of times, his social life consists of work, role-playing games at a local toy shop, and making YouTube videos with his Teddy Bear hamsters. The arrival of the holidays—with the annoying music, Christmas shopping, and all the reminders of how he disappointed his father—just reinforces his reclusive nature.

When James Olsen, a gorgeous daddy bear who frequents the bathhouse, notices him, Brian is at a loss. He’s not proud of his own bear status or his struggle with weight. The idea that James has interest in him beyond an easy hookup is more than Brian can fathom. But with a little bit of holiday magic, James might help Brian learn to accept Christmas again—and himself.

A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2016 Advent Calendar “Bah Humbug.”

REVIEW:

Well, this one was a surprise. It was kind of the dirtiest of my Advent Calendar reads, but I say that in a good way! A Christmas story…set in a gay bathhouse!

Brian McKay works at a gay bathhouse in Denver. He is that guy at the front door, who takes the men’s money, checks their ID and membership, hands them a towel and send them on their way. He has seen things that can’t be unseen, like “Bathhouse Santa” plowing Brian’s coworker.

Brian is quiet, shy and unassuming, preferring the company of this two teddy bear hamsters, and his twice a week roll playing game buddies, to the real world. He has zero self-worth and thinks he is chubby, hairy and not worthy of a boyfriend. He gets by on hookups at the bathhouse.

But Brian has noticed this hot Muscle Bear Daddy who has been coming to the bathhouse, and when he sees the man in the middle of an orgy, he runs the other way so the guy won’t see how much it turns him on. The man is so far beyond him that it doesn’t even bear thought.

But the man, James Olsen, seems to have noticed Brian. Am I the only geek who thought instantly…oh Jimmy Olsen grew up to be a muscle bear? (Superman reference for those of you who didn’t get it.)

Things might just get steamy. Not might, they will.

I liked this one a lot and I highly recommend it. It wasn’t all about sweetness and light like some of the others I’ve read. Of course, anyone who knows me, knows that I have a thing for Bears, so I might have been a little prejudiced. 🙂
