“How much longer is rock bottom supposed to last?”
Broke and overstressed, Orlando is doing everything he can to get his life and mental health back on track–and score a date with shy-but-sexy Geoff before the new year. But when the biggest mistake of Orlando’s life reappears on his doorstep with the daughter he never knew he had, he has to drop his plans of romance and focus on what’s important: the eight-month-old baby now depending on him.
“It’s not every day someone has to learn to be a dad literally overnight.”
But Geoff isn’t giving up on that date he was promised, baby or no baby, and his adorably dorky charm is enough to sweep Orlando off his feet. Geoff seems too good to be true–patient, generous, smart, funny…he even adores the baby who’s suddenly become the center of Orlando’s world, and his sure and steady hand helps ease the new dad through the panic-inducing trials of parenthood. All that can’t come without a catch.
“Nothing good ever happens this fast.”
Even as their lives intertwine, Orlando is convinced Geoff is way out of his league, and Geoff has his own reservations. Falling too hard, too fast is a recipe for disaster, but neither man can help getting a little carried away. If they want to truly turn their ragtag group into a family, both of them will have to face their insecurities in this sweet and steamy holiday romance.
REVIEW:
Really needy guys aren’t usually my cup of tea but this book was so touching and sweet that it just made me smile.
Orlando Harris hasn’t had an easy life. No dad, and his mom died when he was six years-old leaving him in foster care most of his childhood. He also suffers from several debilitating mental issues. But he finally has a decent enough job and a roof over his head. Oh, and a date with Hot Coffee Shop Guy – Geoff! Then in breezes a past one night stand (actually three nights, but who’s counting) from a really low point in his life when he escaped to Chicago. She drops a bombshell on Orlando, his eight month old daughter Noelle, and then leaves. Baby Noelle doesn’t phase Geoff in the least but when he discovers Orlando’s medicine in the kitchen cabinet, that startles him. He has been down that road before and he’s not sure he is up for the challenge again. “Love Keeps Giving” is the sweet and heartwarming tale of how Geoff and Orlando struggle through many obstacles to see if they really are made for each other.
I loved Orlando. He is much stronger than he believes he is. And when facing the biggest challenge in his life, instant parenthood, he rises to the challenge beautifully. Not to say life is easy. There is one challenge after another thrown at this man and he still manages to stay sane, not an easy thing for a man with anxiety issues to do. Geoff is such a wonderful, giving man and he is there to help anyway he can. But Orlando is fearful he is imposing on his generosity too much. I could understand where each man was coming from and that endeared them to me even more. And how they both pour their heart out to Noelle is so touching. What a lucky little girl.
I know that this is billed as a romantic holiday novel, and it does take place during the holidays, with lots of Christmas carols thrown in, but I think it supersedes the holiday genre to a touching and well written sweet love story.
