Daius has spent his days searching for a way into the Neptune Colony, as have many other bio-males. After failing the humans once, he’s adamant he can help free the colony. When he follows a rumor about a stolen Hje transport filled with heliotrope, he tracks down the pirates who took it—along with a piece of special cargo the Hje are anxious to retrieve.
Once he unlocks one door, he finds he needs another key.
Izak Abernathy has lived his entire life on Neptune. Trying to rebel got him locked up and left to rot. His future changes when the head of the Hje choses him as a personal servant—which puts him straight in the path of Daius.
Is Izak the key to giving Daius everything he wants?
REVIEW:
Rescued brings us the continuing story of the bio-males. The bio-males are the race of genetically engineering beings created by humans that we met in the previous installment, Captured. As we learned in that book, the bio-males were driven out by the humans before the Earth was attacked and the human race was almost completely wiped out by aliens called the Hje. Many of the survivors still blame the bio-males for not saving the human race.
This installment carries on shortly after the events in the first book in the series. This time we focus on a bio-male named Daius. Daius is in the right place at the right time to rescue a human on the run from the Hje, and events unfold from there. The story moves fast, and I liked the characters.
When the rescued man insists that Daius rescue his son from Neptune before he will give the bio-males the secret codes to be able to rescue everyone else on Neptune, Daius is up for the job. But when he rescues the wrong man, is it the end of the road for the plans to free all the prisoners of the Hje held there?
Again, like the first book, I’m liking this new story line from the author, but I wish there was more to it. In my opinion, the story didn’t seem to gain a lot of ground with this installment, even though there were a lot of things going on. To keep it honest, I’ll admit the world building is a little scarce, especially in the Neptune rescue area. Also, there isn’t much ‘science’ in the story, so if you’re looking for a true sci-fi story, this probably isn’t it. But, if you’re looking for a fast read, racy space adventure, this one might work. Be forewarned, there is some male pregnancy, as well as some men with two penises.
Take my advice and pick up and read the first one first, since the characters do roll into this one. This one ended in a semi-cliffhanger, so I’ll be waiting to see what happens next!
