Finn Mayer dreamed of joining the FBI from the time he was fourteen and made every possible sacrifice to make it happen, including living with his selfish mother and bullying, homophobic brother and never having a boyfriend. But his undiagnosed dyslexia stopped his aspirations dead in their tracks. His last chance is to partner with Talon, an enhanced with deadly abilities who doesn’t trust regular humans with their secrets and wants Finn to fail.
Four weeks to prove himself to the team. Four weeks for the team to prove itself to the public. And when another group threatens their success—and their lives are at stake—four weeks for them to survive.
REVIEW:
This totally had an X-Men type of vibe that I totally liked. This is my first book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Enhanced human M/M romance, who would have thought that, would be so appealing?
My main complaint and possibly only complaint regarding this story would be the fact that I wish there was of an emotional connection between the two characters. This is an angstFEST which I really loved but I think it would have been more emotionally charged if there was more on page emoting between the two MC’s. As it stood a lot of the feelings came out through eternal musings but I still really liked this book.
Finn Mayer has spent the majority of his life as “nothing special.” But he’s always had big hopes for his future. One of those was becoming an FBI agent. When that dream seemed to die another avenue opened to Finn. A secret organization, a regular human paired with an enhanced human” for the betterment of the world. Finn found himself with a partner he couldn’t ignore and entrenched in secrecy.
Talon Valdez has been different his whole life. Apart of a small percentage of the human population born with a gene that enhances special abilities has left him feeling an outsider. He’s always wanted to do good however so it’s no surprise he’s able to excel in the FBI with his team of enhanced agents.
The partnership between Finn and Talon is doomed to fail, especially considering the heated attraction between the two men.
I will say even though the sex was few and far between it was exceptionally hot. I liked Finn and Talon together but like I mentioned I wish there was more feeling between the two.
This ends very much like there will be another book. There are so many characters in this story that I want to more about and that I want to have happiness of their own.
Overall, great start to hopefully lots more…recommend!!
