Hello all! I’m C.S. Poe, back with another monthly post here at Love Bytes.
So I’m partial to whiskey, but sometimes nothing hits the spot after a long day like a beer. I didn’t always enjoy beer, but I picked up a taste for it when I lived in Japan. And let me tell you, on a disgustingly hot, humid August day, cold soba noodles and some limited edition Sapporo beer are a match made in taste bud heaven. I ate that meal more times than I care to admit throughout summer in Ibaraki.
I mention alcohol of some variety in nearly all of my stories, the exception being my upcoming Steampunk short, Gunner the Deadly. (Although I did have an entire saloon scene that ended up on the cutting room floor, so to speak.) Whiskey, vodka, wine, beer— sometimes the characters enjoy a drink by themselves, and other times they share it with someone special. I like to include these moments, be it passive or active in the scene, because they lend a bit of depth and personality to the characters that readers can relate to.
Sebastian and Calvin from my debut novel, The Mystery of Nevermore, share a beer together, although I never mentioned a specific brand. So please leave a comment below and tell me your favorite beer for a chance to win a free e-copy of the book! You can still play along if you’re not a beer drinker— just share your beverage of choice. On 11/25, one comment will be chosen at random and notified.
Until next month!

The Mystery of Nevermore (Snow & Winter Book One)
It’s Christmas, and all Sebastian Snow wants is for his business to make money and to save his floundering relationship with CSU detective, Neil Millett. But when Snow’s Antique Emporium is broken into and a heart is found under the floorboards, Sebastian can’t let the mystery rest.
He soon finds himself caught up in murder investigations that echo the macabre stories of Edgar Allan Poe. To make matters worse, Sebastian’s sleuthing is causing his relationship with Neil to crumble, while at the same time he’s falling hard for the lead detective on the case, Calvin Winter. Sebastian and Calvin must work together to unravel the mystery behind the killings, despite the mounting danger and sexual tension, before Sebastian becomes the next victim.
In the end, Sebastian only wants to get out of this mess alive, and live happily ever after with Calvin.

Fave bottled beer – San Miguel or Miller Genuine Draft
I’m not a beer drinker myself; I am a Captain Morgan type of girl if anything, lol. But I did enjoy an in-house beer that I tasted in a microbrewery/restaurant. They gave us shotglasses of several types of beer on a placemat that described each one. We took home a “growler” of the one I liked, but I never really wanted more. Sadly the microbrewery/restaurant is closed now, and I can’t remember the name of the place.
Now I’m thinking that I should find something to drink, since I don’t go out anymore, like bourbon or whiskey, because of sleep problems. Unfortunately I simply don’t like the taste of alcohol.
Looking forward to a Poe (Edgar Allan)-based story. He’s a favorite author of mine.
Hi Nicki! Thanks for sharing your story. Not everyone has the tastebuds for alcohol, right? The random number generator spit you out as the winner! Please email me at: author.c.s.poe@gmail.com with your preferred file type for the free copy of The Mystery of Nevermore. Thank you!

not really a beer or alcohol person
an iced coffee would do me 🙂
Shiner all the way for this Texas girl!
I am not a beer drinker, but a drink of choice on a social occasion might be a mocktail or an ice tea (lemon or peach)
