Politics, puppy dogs, and passion, oh my!
When his Republican opponent outs him with a photo in a Facebook post, Senator Samuel Dalton doesn’t have many options open to him. It doesn’t matter that the photo is totally innocent. He has no choice but to come clean…until his staff suggest putting a spin on it that leaves Sam reeling.
Sure, he’ll end up with a lot of sympathy, not to mention the possibility of more voters from the LGBT community, but it still seems a pretty drastic solution.
Now all they have to do is persuade Gary, the other man in the photo, to play along. It sounds so easy: convince the constituents of North Carolina that he and Sam are engaged.
No big deal, except for the fact that they’ve only just met….
REVIEW:
Senator Samuel Dalton is an established, well liked man, running for another term in office, and things seem to be going fairly well. Well, until his opponent catches an innocent if exuberant congratulatory hug given to one of his staff members, in a photo. Then, it becomes pure mayhem for his campaign team.
Gary is one of the best call center reps Samuel Dalton’s campaign has ever had. He enjoys his work, and believes in the senator’s platform. But, he is also a graduate student drowning in student loans. When he sneaks outside for a quick smoke and ends up running into the Senator, things seem to be going fairly well. Especially when he gets a phone call with some really great and happy news. Sam leans over and hugs Gary in congratulations, and that’s where all the trouble starts.
Sam’s ultra conservative opponent gets his hands on a photo of him and Gary in said hug, and turns it into something very ugly, alluding to the senator secretly being gay. Well, it turns out that Sam is, in fact, gay. And, in order to fight all the ugly accusations the opponent is making, Sam’s team decides it is a great time for him to come out, turning the scandal around on said opponent and making him look like the bad guy. Which he totally is, of course. The only thing is, the senator now needs to convince Gary to go along with this sham relationship.
After a little bit of convincing, Gary agrees, and Sam’s team goes into action calling together a last minute press conference and coming up with a plausible story on when and where the two “lovebirds” met. A couple stumbling blocks along the way are the fact that Sam forgot to tell his family the good news, so they end up hearing about it on the news. And, the opponent keeps trying to sabotage the campaign.
Thru it all, Sam and Gary form a sweet friendship, that slowly turns into something more.
The Senator’s Secret is a sweet story, that I can read and listen to over and over again. It is a great addition to the Dreamspun Desires line of books from Dreamspinner press. And, K. C. Wells should be proud of this book, indeed. Love your works, K. C.!
Let’s not forget John Solo’s part in this audiobook. Fantastic narration, good sir! I have had the privilege of listening to other books by the great John Solo, and can honestly say his narration has never let me down. Definitely get this book!
