REVIEW:
The Hunt is set in a post-apocalyptic world where everything has been destroyed by wars. The only way to survive is to join a “crew” and the only way to join a crew is to survive “the hunt”. Crews are basically gangs who have joined together to survive, the hunt is an initiation of sorts, you must successfully hide and survive not only your crew’s hunters but rival crew members as well. The hunt can last from 2 days to 2 weeks.
When Ryo was 16 his mother sent his sister to the Seclusion, a place for the protection of children that haven’t yet been kidnapped. Ryo didn’t see his sister Kirei for years, not until she arrived on his doorstep after having left Seclusion of her own free will. Now that Kirei has come of age and is such a beauty Ryo has made the choice to join a crew. Now that Ryo has decided the time has come to join a crew, he’s scouted the local crews and has decided to join the Owari, the biggest, baddest of them all. When he tells the Owari that he has already found a way into their compound he becomes something of a legend and the leader of the crew decides to test Ryo’s strength by sending him on a 2-week hunt, no-one has ever had to do 2 weeks.
Ryo is partnered with Hikaru, Hikaru is the Owari’s best hunter he gets sent on a good portion of the hunts to make sure there’s no cheating as well as to report back to the leader whatever he learns about them. Right from the beginning Hikaru knows that Ryo is different, he feels something almost immediately when he’s around Ryo. This has never happened to him before, this is so rare that Hikaru is willing to put his position within the crew and help one of his recruits, something that is expressly forbidden and he’s never even contemplated doing for anyone before.
It’s incredibly hard work to stay hidden from the hunters but Ryo does his best and while they’re running and hiding Ryo and Hikaru manage to fall in love. They do get caught because the hunters know that Hikaru is helping Ryo and they’re shocked until he explains his rare feelings. This sets them all on the adventure of a lifetime when the hunters decide to help Ryo recover a sphere, a source of energy that is so rare everyone thinks they’re all gone. Ryo knows where they are and has promised his new leader he’ll bring one back.
Don’t forget to get your copy of The Hunt to find out if they get the sphere, does Ryo and Kirei get into the crew. I can’t say anymore because I will let out spoilers and I don’t like people who spoil story’s like that.
