Can love truly conquer all?
Jet Wannabi has been working undercover for over a year with nothing more than the odd furtive phone call to his lover and master, Blaze Swanson. All that’s about to change, though, as a year’s worth of work is coming to a head in the biggest bust Jet has ever been a part of. When the SWAT and Narcotics teams roll in early, Jet gets trapped between them and the bad guys, with disastrous results.
Firefighter Blaze Swanson is more than ready to have his lover and sub home with him when he finds out that Jet’s been hurt in the bust. He gets to the hospital as fast as humanly possible, only to find out that Jet has banned Blaze from seeing him. Jet believes he’s ruined and that letting Blaze go to live his life is the right thing to do.
Blaze is going to have to call on all of his stubbornness, love, patience and abilities as a Dom to convince Jet that not only do they need each other, but the lifestyle they’ve enjoyed in the past is not out of reach, not if Jet puts his trust in his master to take care of him.
Join Blaze and Jet on their journey to rediscover how they fit together.
REVIEW:
After a year working undercover, Jet Wannabi is beyond ready to be done with his current assignment so that he can go home to his Master, Blaze. The bust he’s worked so hard for goes wrong in the last moments, however, and Jet ends up in the hospital and out of a job, scarred in more than just a physical sense. Banning Blaze from seeing the wreck he’s become seems like a good idea at the time but Jet seems to have forgotten that his lover is both willing and able to break through the walls he’s built up around himself. Blaze has waited over a year to bring his boy back home where he belongs and nothing, not even Jet himself, is going to stop him from having his boy back and helping him heal.
*hums happily* While I don’t always go for hurt/comfort books, there was just something really appealing about this one. Jet is seriously injured at the beginning of the book and it was great seeing him heal and make progress towards his recovery throughout the rest of the story. While the book itself is on the shorter side, you do still get to see various aspects of Jet’s healing and while I would’ve liked maybe a bit more in depth storyline dealing with it, I wasn’t disappointed at all with what was given here.
The book also features bdsm but for the vast majority of the book its on the milder side of the spectrum dealing more with Jet and Blaze’s relationship as Dom and sub and their interactions rather on any kind of kinky play. The focus of the book is on Jet’s recovery, as it should be, and I found the level of kink appropriate for the story. For those that like a good hardcore scene, however, there is a major play scene near the end of the book so you have that to look forward to. I liked the two main characters together and really enjoyed seeing their interactions while Jet was struggling but I did miss some of the connection I would’ve felt if they hadn’t already been an established relationship or if I’d been able to read about them getting together previously.
Overall this was an easy read that hit all the right hurt/comfort buttons without becoming overly bogged down with a ton of angst. Fans of Sean Michael should enjoy this one and if you like a little kink without it taking over the story, I think you’ll like this one too.
