Love Bytes is delighted to be aible to show you Exclusively the cover of Meg Hardings new upcoming release, Part 3 in the Carlisles series, “Checking it Twice”.
Here we go!
Hi! Thanks for having me! I’m really excited to reveal the gorgeous cover for my upcoming novel, out November 28th, Checking it Twice. It’s the third in The Carlisles series, and like the covers before, it was designed by Reese Dante.
A Carlisles novel
Closeted professional hockey player Eric Belanger is falling hard for an out-and-proud male model. He’s unable to resist Dorian’s charm and pushing personal boundaries he never thought he’d cross. But Dorian is the kind of guy who deserves someone who isn’t afraid to be himself. Eric’s fears about what coming out will do to his career clash with the future he hopes to build with Dorian. He knows he’ll eventually have to make a choice.
Dorian Carlisle knows better than to date a man who wants to keep him a secret, but there’s something about Eric he can’t ignore. So he’ll take the risk, and it’ll be all right, because this isn’t a forever romance. He’s happy to live in the moment. But somehow, at some point, feelings sneak up on him and he’s not okay anymore. At a breaking point, Dorian must also make a decision. Their time together will either be the start of something wonderful or nothing more than a happy memory.

If Dorian’s nervous about meeting his teammates, he’s doing a damn good job of hiding it. Eric, on the other hand, is doing an awful job of it, and he’s sequestered himself in the bathroom to try and get a grip. He has a plan. He has a simple story ready about how Dorian’s a friend, and he wanted to hang out and catch up. That’s completely normal, and all the guys have done something similar. There’s nothing to worry about. No one is going to question Eric.
He rests his head against his cool countertop. Everything is going to be okay. If he says that enough, he’ll eventually believe it.
There’s a knock on the door. “Are you going to be in there much longer? I left my hair gel on the counter, and I need to fix this bit that’s poking up.”
Despite his self-caused angst, he smiles at that. Dorian is obsessed with his hair. He spends more time on it than anything else when getting ready. “Give me a second,” he says. He cycles through some breathing exercises while he opens and shuts a few cabinets, wipes down the already dry counter. He tries not to show how stressed he is when he opens the door for Dorian. “All yours.”
Dorian goes up on his toes as he passes by to kiss him. He pats Eric’s chest when he pulls away. “I don’t know what you were doing in here, but you forgot to brush your teeth.” His nose scrunches up, his brows furrowing. “You taste like that protein shake.”
“So I taste delicious?” teases Eric, wiggling his eyebrows.
“You and I both know that shake tastes like grass.”
Eric adopts a mock offended look, but he can’t really argue because it does taste like grass. The joys of being an athlete. “Mind if I brush my teeth while you fix your hair, then?”
“Have at.”
Dorian leans over the counter till his nose is nearly touching the glass and fusses with his hair. Eric doesn’t see anything wrong with it (none of it looks to be standing up more than the rest), but he keeps the thought to himself. The most he ever does for his hair is slap some gel in it and go on his way. He brushes his teeth while Dorian chatters at him. Or maybe to himself. Nothing he says actually requires that Eric respond, but he hums around his toothbrush in certain spots anyway. Just in case.
They move around each other for the next half hour or so, getting ready. Eric doesn’t say a whole lot, afraid if he does his nerves will come spilling out everywhere, but Dorian carries the conversation on his own, and the sound of his voice actually calms Eric some. The guys are going to love him, and everything is going to be okay.
Dorian looks dashing when they finally make it out the door. He’s wearing skinny black slacks and shiny wingtips. He’s got a gold cashmere sweater on, and his coat is a fancy black affair that hangs to his knees and buttons up the front. He looks like he should be posing for a spread in GQ. There’re plenty of fashion-conscious guys on the team, and they’ll no doubt quiz Dorian and ask for pointers.
Eric’s tempted to blow off the party and celebrate the New Year alone with Dorian. If they don’t go out, he’ll get to kiss him at midnight…. If he doesn’t go out, then the guys are really going to ask questions. He sighs and repeats his mantra for the night.

This is pretty light on technical aspects, so no hockey knowledge is needed (Dorian knows absolutely nothing about it himself lol). Thanks!
