Kerry Pickering has a problem. As a publicist for Hollywood bad boy Jericho Knox, it’s Kerry’s job to keep Jericho in the news. So far, Jericho’s partying and public escapades have made it easy. But Jericho has a secret, and when that secret is revealed in the most spectacularly disastrous way, it’s up to Kerry to spin it.
The team decides the best course of action is to make the public fall in love – with Jericho’s secret committed relationship. The one that doesn’t exist. Yet.
The team wants someone they can trust. Someone in the inner circle. That someone is Kerry. But what will happen when Kerry realizes that for him, the romance is no longer pretend? Can Jericho love him back, or is he just playing a role?
REVIEW:
Okay, so this book was adorable. It was sweet, a little bit of sexy (in the right ways), and one that I already want to listen to again, tho I just finished it not 20 minutes ago. There was just enough drama/ angst to keep me invested, but not so much as to become depressing.
Kerry is a publicist. Sort of. For the most part, at least. He mainly maintains and updates social media accounts for clients and does general grunt/ gopher work for the rest of the team. He has dreamed of going to industry parties and hobnobbing with the stars, but his dreams seem pretty far off right now, especially since he has never had a chance to interact with any of them so far.
Jericho Knox is a famed actor with a reputation of womanizing, partying, and all around having a bad attitude. One reason for having such a bad attitude is the fact that Jericho is gay, and his publicist will not let him come out because he thinks it will be bad for Jericho’s career. Well, one night Jericho goes out and has a few too many drinks. You see where this is going? Yep, many a hangover and salacious story starts with “so, I went out and had way too many drinks…” Right? Oh yeah. Well, this one is not so different, really. Anyway, one night Jericho goes out and has a few too many drinks. He runs into a fan of his and ends up… Well, to put it as delicately as I can, Jericho winds up getting his photo taken whilst said fan is, uh, on his knees showing Jericho his appreciation.
For the publicist, this could not come at a worse time, because Jericho is up for a role in a widely popular television show, and the photo could absolutely blow his chances of landing it. While Jericho’s publicist is trying to come up with viable damage control scenarios, our actor is pleased as punch not to have to go out on any more staged dates with women in order to boost his career and perpetuate his reputation. Until Kerry suggests a scenario where the guy in the photo with Jericho is the actor’s secret fiance, and the two were caught in a private moment with each other while out on the town. Now, to find the right man who looks similar enough to the one in the photo. Yep, you guessed it, our little Kerry fits the description to a “t”.
Much awkwardness and resentment on both sides ensues when Kerry is forced to temporarily move in with Jericho, in an attempt to make their (fake) relationship look more plausible and real. Dates and public appearances are planned, and the couple must look as lovey dovey and in love as possible in front of the cameras. But, for Kerry at least, feelings start to form and grow. It’s all supposed to be fake, and they are supposed to publicly break up shortly after filming of Jericho’s new television role starts filming. But, Kerry is finding it harder every day to say goodbye when time time comes.
Gyah! Jericho and Kerry are just so adorable together! Their flirting, and even intimate moments are just so cute and make me smile every time I think back on them. Please pardon my girly gushing over them. They really are adorable.
Thank you, oh great M. J. O’Shea, for another great story. And, John Solo, well done! Why on Earth have I not gotten more of your books, both of you? Please accept my wholehearted apologies in being so remiss. M. J. O’Shea, this is the second book of yours that I have now and both of them were lovely. John Solo, this is the second book I have that you have narrated. Both were masterfully done and I enjoyed them immensely. Honestly, I feel extremely stupid for not actively seeking out and buying every one of the works each of you has done. Trust me, this will be rectified soon enough tho.
So, in summary, this book is super adorable and you should definitely get it. Now.
