My Rock
I recently completed an interview and one of the questions was ‘who is my rock’? It was an interesting question because that depended on the context. My first thought was that my husband is my rock. He’s the person who stands by me through thick and thin. He’s been by my side through all the significant events in my life and keeps me steady. He’s someone to lean on, a shoulder to cry on, and someone to celebrate all the wonderful things with.
But I have other ‘rocks’.
I come from a very close family and can count on each and every one of them. I’m also proud to say my sister is my closest friend. We live in the same suburb, and she’s been my support as I’ve balanced working full time with raising my own family. She provides everything from advice, to someone to race over to my house when I’m not there and the kids need something, to a great coffee companion. I hope you’re all lucky enough to have a family member to back you up.
My best friend from school is someone who I don’t have to see regularly to maintain a strong friendship. Months (or even years when she lived overseas) can go by without us seeing each other, but when we get together it’s like no time has passed. If I asked her to do anything, and vice versa, it would be done without hesitation, no explanations needed.
I’m also lucky to have ‘rocks’ in my writing world. I have a writing bestie (who’s slipped over into an all-round bestie role J). This is a person who is a sounding board, offer support, and importantly, tell me the truth. I have also met a wonderful group of people over the years who have been full of advice and encouragement, which is so wonderful in our wide-spread global community, and while undertaking a somewhat solitary career.
I truly as blessed.
In Sebastian & Owen, my latest story, the main characters have been together for six years but are going through some tough times. As in life, things are thrown in their path, testing their strength but luckily their relationship is strong enough to overcome all obstacles. It takes a tsunami to remind them of who their rocks are.
Happy reading,
Nic

Sebastian & Owen is book #3 in the Storming Love: Tsunami series from MLR Press. Three authors each contributed a story about a couple facing the same tsunami event.

Blurb
Owen’s eagerness to win Sebastian back turns to desperation as a tsunami threatens to tear them apart.
The last twelve months have been hard on Owen Hewitt and even tougher on his relationship. For six years, Sebastian Carmichael has been the love of his life, but that love is put to the test as Owen sinks into injury-induced depression.
Living with chronic pain and unable to do the things he used to do makes him feel like a failure, and causes him to believe he’s holding the younger Sebastian back.
When Sebastian takes some time out and leaves to stay at their holiday house, it could spell the end of the relationship. But as a tsunami bears down on the Tasmanian coast, it could spell the end of everything.
