The Power of Zero: Book One
You don’t greet your new boss dressed like an underage rent boy. But when Jack Horwood—ace hacker and ex-MI6 operative—opens the door to Gareth Flynn, he’s too busy to worry over details like that. And anyway, his potential new boss is his former commanding officer – the same guy Jack has had a crush on since he was seventeen. So he should understand, right?
When he applied for the job in Nancarrow Mining’s corporate security division, Jack had hoped for peaceful days repelling cyber attacks. Maybe a bit of corporate espionage on the side. His plans didn’t include rescuing abused children, hunting pimps, or dealing with his overly protective and hot-as-hell boss, Gareth Flynn.
Walking away is not an option. Jack never takes the easy way out. More than that, meeting Gareth raises old ghosts that Jack needs to put to rest. Rescuing kids. Taking risks. Saving the day. Jack can do all that—but deciding what to do about his attraction to Gareth isn’t the sort of cloak-and-dagger game Jack plays well. Yet Gareth, strong and smart and always on hand when needed, might be Jack’s salvation.
REVIEW:
Wow…that what I have to say about this story…Wow.
Jack Horwood…this guy has had a hard life. What he’s come from and where he is now…just shows you the strength of will and determination that you have to admire. I love that Jack was a warrior when it came to fighting crime. Even to the detriment of his own health. That part I didn’t really care for, as you have to take care of yourself in order to help others.
Gareth Flynn…now that is a hell a sexy man. He’s ALWAYS had this attraction to Jack and he was sad to have Jack leave the Army without having done anything about it. I really liked that once he “found” Jack again…he wasn’t letting go. I liked that there is way more to Gareth than meets the eye. I want more of Gareth. To really see who he is and what he’s about.
I was swept away with the mystery/suspense aspect of this story. I was having some mad feelings about what these boys were going through was just…heartbreaking. Just thinking about it as I’m writing these words…feels my heart with such heartbreak. Anger is there as well, please don’t get me wrong…I wanna reach through my headphones and beat some people down…and that’ s the truth. This book had so much going on and I was just hooked once the mystery/suspense started. I had to know how this book was going to end.
This book came at you from so many different ways and you just got hooked. I have to say that I liked that this book’s MC’s romance was secondary. It added to the story, however, it didn’t overwhelm the story. The mystery/suspense that was a huge theme throughout the entire story was truly the focus of this book and it was good.
Fox Ballard did a wonderful job in his narration. I kind of liked that he didn’t speak with an English accent when he was just mentioning things and then when he did a character(s) voice, he had the accent going on. I have to say that Fox did a powerful job with his narration. I was feeling so many emotions while falling deeper and deeper into the story. I kept losing track of time and just concentrating on the story.
