It’s been months since anyone at the Committee has had any contact from the O’Connell family or their pack members, and they are not happy. Suspicious of the activities that took place in D.C. and determined to find out what the wolves are up to, the Committee recruits one of their newest residents, Doctor Matthew Dietrich, to play the part of neighbor and infiltrate the family.
Matthew has always been a keep-to-himself kind of person. Though idealistic and optimistic, he prefers to work in solitude, at night, while he researches the findings that he hopes will one day change the world. When he’s approached by the executives of the Center, he has no idea why they’d choose him. And to say he is skeptical over the concept of men that can shift into wolves would be an understatement. Until he meets his new partner, the man that will play the part of his “husband” in the Committee’s scheme, Doctor Gavin Strauss.
REVIEW:
This was probably my least favorite of the 3 so far in the series. And while I loved the writing in the story like I always do with any AF Henley book, this one was just ok. I think mainly it had to do with my lack of connection to the characters. There were times when I was just completely put off by Matthew and I struggled with the romantic link between the two. I did however enjoy the suspense and the return of our villain, Arius. It was also awesome to get some Vaughn and Randy interaction because, duh….favorite couple of the series, by far!
So, book 3 introduces 2 new characters into this paranormal world. Dr. Matthew Dietrich is a scientist who only wants to help and save people. Preferring the quiet he chooses to work at night so he can really concentrate on his research. Unbeknownst to him he’s been chosen for a special project by his superiors to infiltrate and found out why the O’Connell pack went off the radar.
Thinking Matthew will have more luck if he’s accompanied by a paranormal being the partner him up with Dr. Gavin Strauss who is different in his own right.
Acting as husbands their ruse doesn’t last long and both men are flung in a nightmare that includes a scary overprotective family, a vampire deadset on revenge and a plot to eradicate a whole species.
One thing Matthew and Gavin do not lack is passion. These two men without a doubt were extremely hot together. Knowing what they want they went for it no holds barred and there were fireworks. But like I mentioned I would have loved more of an emotional connection.
Overall, pretty good but not my favorite of the series something that should be stressed however is how magnificent a writer A.F. Henley is…so good!!
