Hi there:)

It’s M.J. O’Shea and I have a few songs to share again! One of the jobs I thought I’d have when I was young was being the person who picked songs for movies and TV shows. I obviously wasn’t all that serious about it. I’m not even sure what that job is called lol. But I do still have a love for the marriage of narrative and music. So I’ll do a top three of songs in film/TV scenes..

I’m not a huge Twilight fan but I thought whoever did the music selection for the first film did an amazing job. They dropped the ball a bit after that when it got more commercial and less indie, but this one scene struck me — no not baseball and Supermassive Black Hole although I will love Muse forever. It was just this creepy part where she’s narrating and this song is playing in the background. It was perfect.

My second comes from Alias, which had great music choices in general…sadly not so much with the version on netflix… but one scene they had Jennifer Garner dressed up in a punk costume going to make a dead drop (she’s a spy) and this song came on. I definitely loved that!

My absolute favorite comes from Star Trek… in the first of the new films they had Kirk speeding down the highway with this song playing. I remember thinking how awesome and out of the box it was to use familiar music in a sci-fi setting.
